Big THANKS to Zetta and Nicky: Last year they allowed me to interview them for a chapter I was writing for a book that my graduate social media class was compiling. My chapter describes how a group of us came together via She Writes to create the anthology Oil and Water...and Other Things That Don't Mix in response to the BP oil spill. My class's book, Social Media in Context has just been published and is now available on Amazon. Thank you, Zetta and Nicky for all your help!

Nicky after dealing with the "justice" system for five years now regarding our water issue...none of what you say surprises me. Our system is so broken and a win or settlement becomes words on paper, but not necessarily money in the hands that need it most. It's very frustrating. That is why it's so important to keep this in the public eye.

Hi all, People down here are not optimistic that they will ever see a dime. In addition, the bay seems pretty dead. I've seen almost no animal life in the bay--hardly any water birds, migrating water birds, no porpoise activity. It appears to be almost lifeless. The economy is not great. Most people are just concerned about the day to day. And in a related personal scenario--The "oil man" one beach house over from me is building the biggest, most opulent home that has ever been on this little bay with an army of workers, limestone siding from Texas, mahogany everything, geothermal units, etc., etc. We have our own little 1% v the 99% right here on the Bluff! That pretty much tells me the whole story.

@Lissa et al: yes a good start & yes a GREAT idea re: books & yes it will be a long haul til the end but I'm sure BP's pockets are a bottomless pit of $$.

As far as I can determine, BP still has to face the federal govt. and several stat govts. plus those private entities that opted out of the class action suit that was settled. BP has miles to go before it sees the last of litigation.

We should offer BP the opportunity to send a copy of the anthology to every person and organization to whom they will be paying money. Zetta, as publisher, maybe you'd like to contact their corporate PR folks? Just a thought. Of course, BP could try to negotiate a bulk discount.
