Comment by Laura B Gschwandtner on March 3, 2012 at 1:13pm @Lissa et al: yes a good start & yes a GREAT idea re: books & yes it will be a long haul til the end but I'm sure BP's pockets are a bottomless pit of $$.
Comment by Lissa Brown on March 3, 2012 at 11:49am As far as I can determine, BP still has to face the federal govt. and several stat govts. plus those private entities that opted out of the class action suit that was settled. BP has miles to go before it sees the last of litigation.
We should offer BP the opportunity to send a copy of the anthology to every person and organization to whom they will be paying money. Zetta, as publisher, maybe you'd like to contact their corporate PR folks? Just a thought. Of course, BP could try to negotiate a bulk discount.
Thanks for sharing this Maureen. I hope and pray that after all this time the money gets to the people and doesn't sit in a pile of red tape. It's long overdue. Nothing can make up for what happened, especially to the families that lost loved one's, but this will be something that can help everyone get to a "new normal."
Comment by Zetta Brown on March 3, 2012 at 9:16am Wow. I wonder if they'll really pay it out and if it'll really do any good to the people and environment affected. I guess they didn't want to go through all the nonsense of going to court for years and years and paying lawyers when they know they're going to still have to pay the people.
The unexpected appears to have happened, with BP agreeing to pay $7.8 billion in out-of-court settlement, which does not, however, settle state government claims and awaits judge's approval.

Zetta, you're welcome. I wonder, too; I think the trial will be a long haul.
I also meant to say how much I enjoyed reading your guest posts this past week.
Comment by Zetta Brown on February 26, 2012 at 11:43am Thanks, Maureen! I also posted a link to another article on the OW Facebook page. I wonder how old I'll be when this "ends."
Today's Post ran this article on the BP trial that's to begin:
