If we love to write-why do we PROCRASTINATE?

As a passionate playwright, I cannot tell you the number of plays I have started and not completed. There are many roads to production of these and the plays I have finished. Yet, I have not attempted any of them except the "sure thing", the 10 min. play production festivals in my hometown.

Are they good plays? Of course I and my shampoos think so. However, my shampoos think I sing Opera very well so I'm not too certain about them.

Am I a very busy person?
Am I a very lazy person?
Am I Attention Deficit?
What other external or internal difficulties are there?

What say you? Any and all discussions on, about or avoiding this discussion are encouraged-whenever you get around to it.

True to self--I hadn't gotten back to the Procrastinators pages! However, I did get two assignments. One was given to me last Thursday and needed by early Monday--I did it and love how it came out. The second isn't due until April. That gives me 6 months to procrastinate!

Hi Erin, Thanks for your reply. I certainly understand what you are saying regarding perfectionism. Thank you for the encouragement to do the NanoWrimo. I am starting to think of the things I have to do before November, so, .. it's feeling as if I may be participating!

Lynn, I did NanoWrimo a couple of years ago and really loved it. For years I'd been putting off stories because I am a perfectionist, and if I couldn't write them perfectly, I saw no point in writing them at all. NanoWrimo helped me get over that. I would definitely recommend it. I plan to try it again once I've graduated.

I admit it .. I am a procrastinator. I even wrote a poem about procrastination several years ago. Writing is something I enjoy but I keep putting off sitting down to REALLY write. I have several story beginnings that came out of 'nowhere', but haven't attempted to see where any of those may lead. Now I am wondering if NanoWrimo would be of help to inspire me to really get into writing ... or would that be too overwhelming for a procrastinator?

What a great idea! A series of mysteries surrounding a single family. As a history buff (and teacher) I love stories connected with history whether the big events or the smaller ones we connect to life as we live it.

I look forward to hearing more about it, such as publication date.

Wow! I can't wait to weigh in here. There is such a banquet of topics and they all relate to me. I am taking care of my 89 year old mom and husband with Parkinsons BUT I have a lovely mystery series, With 24 stories and plots I have finally mapped out. It follows a family from 1900 to 2016. Since meeting my mentor Sunny Frazier and finding these sites I have done more towards bringing this family to light than in the last 8 years when I first had the idea. However, I am still having problems sitting butt on chair and getting words on the screen. I love this series and can't wait to share this family's stories but... sorry, have to go to work. HELP!!

Thanks Terri! I'm just trying out different strategies so that I can be more productive. I hate having a million ideas but not being able to sit still for more than ten minutes! Do you have any suggestions or tricks that I can try?

Emily, what ever you wrote is probably genius and wonderful. That is the upside for us A.D.D. writers. That doesn't mean everyone will notice our creative genius-especially when we don't follow through, but WE instinctively know this. ; ]

I'm trying to give myself a schedule of writing three pages everyday to counter my A.D.D. and it was working the first few days but now...I owe 15 pages...darn.
