So what is the most creative excuse you have ever given an editor or colleague when you could not make deadline? Humour is welcome, don't be shy....we are all guilty!!!!

The best excuse I've used is 'The voices in my head are on strike because I haven't had a slice of cheesecake in a year.  Once I eat it though, they'll get back to work, they promised.  Until then no stories for me.'

I'd have a nice introduction message for the group, but I can just do it tomorrow.:)

Maria, if you need lessons on frittering away your valuable time, look no further than this expert at it! Heheheh. It must be said in my defense however that I do derive some of my best trains of thought when I am engaging in activities not at all related to my writing tasks at hand.

Baking bread is good for meditation.

Okay, working to two deadlines today....why do I do this myself???? Note to self, the stories were there!!!! So why did you wait? Hahahahaha......I think it really speaks to some sort of sick, masochistic tendency on the part of writers....

I am afraid, I am joining this not as much as a contributor but as an eager apprentice. I am the worst efficiency freak EVER. Everything gets done on time. I know where things are even when I am not the one who put them there. I need to learn how to sit back and do SQUAT. At least for fifteen minutes a week. Help! :-)

Don't worry about doing today what you can put off to eternity? Hahahaha! Writers, creative types that we are, are the most creative when it comes to procrastination. We love to write but we loathe the business end of thing - like editing? We have deadlines, for many of us imposed by others, and we know all sorts of ways to get extensions but in doing so does that make our work suffer in terms of quality or does it give us that hit of adrenaline that some of us are addicted to - I call it the Newsroom Factor.....those four PM deadlines that used to loom over my head when I worked for a daily.

I gave that up to go to periodicals and more editorially-based writing projects but yes, there can still be those notions of doubt, block and the need to sometimes vex an otherwise wonderful editor......

Why do we torture ourselves so? And in doing so are we damaging our professional credibility, maybe not putting out our best work? You tell me....I hope to foment some good, funny and insightful discussion on this topic -that is if you are not procrastinating too badly?

Hahahahahaha...live large, create well.
