Hi all, I'm not new to Twitter, but I'm sort of new to writing again... at least full time. I'm @cajunjen on Twitter. I've been using it to promote my blog, but generally very lightly, a couple of tweets each time I post. But my full time job for the last several years has been digital communications, so happy to share any thoughts about Twitter or answer questions for those who are new to the platform!

Honestly, Twitter can be helpful when used right--and it takes time. I think of Twitter as something you'd "piggyback" onto your blog. It's a way to deepen your relationship with existing readers by interacting with them on social media, as well as find new readers who you might not otherwise reach.

The writer community on Twitter is massive and thriving, so I'd recommend getting into it if you can. Lots of great articles circulate, writer tips, and find good books in your genre.

Twitter is a lot different than your comment box--comments are relevant to your individual blog posts, right? Twitter is about YOU. You can talk about your writing process, exchange tips with other people, and even just have fun.

That's probably my biggest recommendation--use Twitter for fun first, tool second. People will only start following you and being interested in your stuff if you are having fun or entertaining :)

Hi everyone.  I am a Tweeting virgin - there, I said it. I do not have a twitter account and am a little afraid to start one.  Is there really a need?  How often do you need to tweet?  Is it just another thing to check?  I have just started a blog www.wrestlingpollyanna.com and have included a twitter button but if I am not on twitter so do people just tweet between themselves? There is a comment box on my site, so do I still need to sign onto twitter too?? 

Glad there is a group like this on SW to help guide me into the unknown.

That is a great article by Rob Kroese. I really get turned off by Auto tweets or auto responses...
