She Writes in California

It would be great to meet other aspiring writers, either journalists, bloggers or novelists. If we have enough people, maybe we can even hold group meetings and get to know each other even more.

Wow Rossandra that is fast and very welcoming of you. I love Laguna Beach with the aqua museum and great ocean air. Let's keep up together and see what we can cook together for April. What is your fav form of writing? I'm a poet, but working on memoir at the minute...

Hello there, Charlene! I live in Laguna Beach, about 50 miles down the coast from LA. An artist's town, quite gorgeous, if a bit of too touristy for my liking. If you're down this way, would love to hook up with a sister SheWriter. We might have a few things in common. I'll be around in April.

Hmm I'm native to Canada but frequently visit LA. Any chance of connecting up with any of you when I am in town? Planning this year to be in the LA area April for two weeks then again in late October into most of November... room for a hobo writer?

For anybody visiting or living in the Ojai / Ventura County area, pick up a copy of the local Edible magazine Winter 2015 issue that just came out or read the digital edition here. I wrote a profile piece on the wonderful baker and proprietress of Sticky Fingers Baking Company (and cover model for the issue!), Katherine Glassman.

She makes traditional treats, but also is known for her skills in making gluten-free and vegan stuff that tastes just as good as the real thing. Her gluten-free coffee cake recipe on p 22 is perfect for the holidays. Enjoy!

So you want to be a writer…but ask yourself, do you have what it takes?

I published my memoir Loveyoubye: Holding Fast, Letting Go and Then There's the Dog through She Writes Press in April and have been madly crazily getting it out there in the world! The Kindle version is on sale through Sunday, August 17th for .99 cents. Hop on over to Amazon here. Cheers!

Hello SheWriters,

I'm the founding editor of the brand new West Trestle Review. We publish one poem per week, and letter-press one "best of" each year. It's open to women in CA & NV.

Fire & Water by Betsy Graziano Fassbinder, loved it. SF, art, love, family, mental illness, friendship all touchingly woven into an engaging story. Congratulations on the Honorable Mention!

A quick read of the New York Book Festival winners shows three Bay Area She Writes Authors with Honorable Mentions:  Betsy Graziano Fassbinder for Fire & Water Linda Joy Meyers for Don't Call Me Mother, and myself for Tasting Home. Good work, She Writes!

"Thank you, Miriam. It surprises me how much I've learned about family in retrospect. Part of it came from writing a memoir, but still there are layers to the onion."
