I just learned that Publishers Weekly reviewed my upcoming novel "Tributary." That's a near-miracle, as my publisher is both small and independent!

Just a reminder that we have this other group going where you can connect with publishers beyond SheWrites. The more the merrier.

Hi Alayna-Renee,

It's funny how some people are thrilled to see and support self-publishing efforts. Those who aren't are probably laboring under the illusions of history, when self-publishing was vanity publishing. They're just worried about you and don't know what to say. "Oh dear, poor Alayna-Renee, couldn't get a publisher," or whatever. Don't let them slow you down. Move on, inspire them, and they will soon hop onto your bandwagon.

Hi everyone!

I'm Alayna, and new to these boards, so it's lovely to meet you all!:)

After two long years as a freelance writer, spending my time writing rather uninspired pieces in exchange for paychecks, I've decided it's time to start working on getting my own stuff out there. Some of my friends have been extremely supportive of this endeavour, while others have been surprisingly...well, not.

I decided to use Kickstarter and the power of social media to fund this endeavour, and am 75% to meeting my goal. My project is called "Ophelia's Wayward Muse", and comprises a decade-long exploration of life via various viewpoints on relationships and human connection. I know I don't know you, but I'd be honoured if you'd check out me and my project, and consider making a humble pledge toward helping me realise my own personal vision. :)

Visit me here, and learn more!

*Hugs*,

*~ Alayna

Judith, Thank you for your clarification, which I see now merits our hearty applause. BRAVO! Reginas commented it was 3 years, unsure if that's how long it took to write your first novel, or how long your book's been out. In either case, your determination paid off! My wishes are that the film producer hired an amazing screenwriter to truly showcase your work. :)
