Julie - I agree with Petrea. I've done everything she mentioned except for the video. I accept all invitations and always carry promos in my purse - bookmarks, note pads and business cards. I also joined a women's business group. Networking is key to getting your name and your book out there. I write hot and spicy romance - making my book a perfect fit for home lingerie parties and ladies' nights. Social media has been a great help, as well -  Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, LinkedIn, and my own website. I was also fortunate to have my first book reviewed in the local community magazine. The publicity arising from the review was truly priceless. I'm now working on the publicity for my second book.

I've been out and now I'm back. Love this ongoing discussion. Julie, I don't know everything, but the first thing is "say yes." I started before publication and have:

written book reviews, (they always want your bio, where you can include links),

attended parties and events and taken business cards and bookmarks with me (and a box of books ready to sell from the back of the car),

sold books at a charity event where the proceeds went to the charity (big event, everyone saw the book, good publicity),

sold books at a book fair/festival,

read pages from my book for a video,

etc.

The idea is, when someone says, "Would you like to...?" I say yes.

It doesn't happen in a day, but my sales are building. You have to be in it for the long haul.

I'd love to hear more ideas from others.

Here's the book, and I'm doing a Goodreads Giveaway until the end of May. http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/51716-camelot-vine

Oh yeah! Do a Goodreads Giveaway, and of course the online stuff. Try not to overdo it, people get tired of too much advertising in their Twitter stream.

I'm new to this group and the publishing world.  I just started a small press with a friend, Perfect Mamas Press. I also published a romance novel, Tripped Up Love. I would love some advice on marketing and getting the word out.  I am also looking for reviewers if anyone is interested.

Hey Niki, I'm excited to watch your progress with "Shadows and Wings," I was just looking at your Kickstarter page last night. Congratulations!

Thanks for the shout-out, Tracey. April and I are both very excited about this workshop. We're happy to take any questions in advance that are begging to be answered.

Hi,

As a writer, I have had such success with April Eberhardt as my agent.I was so happy to learn that she and Susan Bearman have combined their experience and expertise to offer "Pathways to Publication: Choosing the Best Way to Reach Your Readers." They are in a unique position to answer so many of our questions about the quickly evolving publishing world. I am confident of this workshop's value!

Hi, Everyone,

First, apologies if you got this invitation through other lists. I believe the members of this group will be particularly interested in this program, and we are eager to get the word out, so feel free to share.

On Friday, June 7, April Eberhardt and I will be co-presenting a workshop in Chicago on Pathways to Publication: Choosing the Best Way to Reach Your Readers. We scheduled this on the afternoon before Printers Row Lit Fest. We hope those in the Chicago area or those coming to town for Lit Fest will join us. Click here for more information and to register.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Susan Bearman
