Group Info and Guidelines

Welcome to the SheWrites group for Speculative Fiction Writers.

Here are just a few, simple guidelines.

1) This is primarily a networking group and NOT a critique group. You are welcome to post short works or small portions of long work, but keep in mind that posting your work to an open forum like this constitutes the use of your first electronic rights. That means many editors and publishers won't then buy it. I recommend Critters as a great closed critique forum.

2) Feel free to promote your writing by announcing your publications and inserting links to your work. However, please don't use this group to advertise anything other than Spec Fic writing that you have some connection to.

3) Feel free to post things of interest to other Spec Fic writers- new markets, calls for submissions, favorite world-building links, great articles etc. If it is someone else's content, however, you should provide a link. Cutting and pasting someone else's work is breaking copyright (even on the internet).

4) Be kind. No flaming or trolls, please- except in your fantasy. Expressing opposing opinions can always be done courteously, without personal attacks or rudeness.

This Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8th and 9th, my SF novel Twin-Bred will be free on Amazon. This is the last time the book will be free (except to reviewers) until just before the sequel comes out, which may be this October.

Twin-Bred asks: can interspecies diplomacy begin in the womb?...

Here's the Amazon link.

I like the name "speculative fiction." I've been describing my work as "sorta sci-fi," but this is so much better.

Come read some unusual posts about The Hunger Games and find out how Collins got the idea for it. http://catherinestine.blogspot.com/2012/03/hunger-games-mash-up.html

Today I blogged about how I decided to go the self-publishing route with my two award-winning science fiction novels, and my surprise when the second won not only a 1st place in science fiction, but best fiction book of the year. Not that I don't think it's a good book, but science fiction books just don't to that!

To celebrate my last tour stop I'm offering a 25-page free ms critique of a YA sci-fi, and at Wistful Nebulae, we're playing a fun game with another interesting prize! http://catherinestine.blogspot.com/2012/03/what-do-you-get-if-you-m...

Release Day! Reach: a Twin-Bred novel is out in ebook and paperback

Ta-da! It's release day for Reach: a Twin-Bred novel, the sequel to Twin-Bred. Twin-Bred addressed the question: can interspecies diplomacy begin in the womb? Reach, set on the planet Tofarn and elsewhere (that'd be telling . . .) carries on the…See More
