Group Info and Guidelines

Welcome to the SheWrites group for Speculative Fiction Writers.

Here are just a few, simple guidelines.

1) This is primarily a networking group and NOT a critique group. You are welcome to post short works or small portions of long work, but keep in mind that posting your work to an open forum like this constitutes the use of your first electronic rights. That means many editors and publishers won't then buy it. I recommend Critters as a great closed critique forum.

2) Feel free to promote your writing by announcing your publications and inserting links to your work. However, please don't use this group to advertise anything other than Spec Fic writing that you have some connection to.

3) Feel free to post things of interest to other Spec Fic writers- new markets, calls for submissions, favorite world-building links, great articles etc. If it is someone else's content, however, you should provide a link. Cutting and pasting someone else's work is breaking copyright (even on the internet).

4) Be kind. No flaming or trolls, please- except in your fantasy. Expressing opposing opinions can always be done courteously, without personal attacks or rudeness.

This is wonderful Sue Ann! I'm pleased as punch!

More crowing and a bit of pinching myself: Tourist Trap not only took first place in science fiction, it received the Garcia Award or best fiction book of the year. How often does that happen for a science fiction book?

Congrats, Sue!

I have to crow a bit. My second sci-fi novel, Tourist Trap, looks like it's following the first, Homecoming, in being a finalist in the Reader Views 2011 Literary awards. Three finalists, three placings. I got second place last year; won't know placing for a while this year.

That should be a good thing! At least I know it is in YA. I just heard an agent (for YA and kids' bks) talk about the coming trend in fusions of genres, including sci-fi.

Hi all.  I'm working on getting an agent for my novel.  A problem I'm running into is that it crosses genres.  It's sci-fi but not "hard" sci-fi and has other elements too - romance, intrigue, etc.  Does anyone know an agent/agency that might want to work with that kind of hard-to-quality book?  Thanks!

Hey, all. I'm looking for an editor for my SF novel. Any recommendations?
