For one second on June 7, the second day of my giveaway, Tasting Home was 171 in the memoir rankings.  Fun, if nothing else.

Thanks for sharing, Judith. Lots of great tips there. Please keep the info coming. I think I will do one around August...

Dear All,  A report on my giveaway.  I gave away 2414 books which is good but not great--not the 23,000 that other authors report. See this article on giveaways: http://www.squidoo.com/going-free-kindle-ebook-promotional-campaign....  I read it this morning and it gave me ideas about what to do with the remaining two days of giveaway that I have.

Here's what I would change.I would start a month ahead so I could get on Pixel of Ink which requires a month's lead. I don't think I got on the Kindle Daily Deal because I didn't have enough lead time.  I would definitely get on this list.  I didn't know about amazon's Meet the Author Forum and would get on that too.  Also, I think I would pay the fee that some sites charge for guaranteeing that you'll be featured.  There are so many giveaways now that I think it pays to fork over the 10 or 20 dollars just to be sure your book will appear.  I'd do the Fiverrs again.

It's too soon to see if this will have any effect on sales, but my ranking in memoir went up 2000 some points (That is it went down, which is up on Amazon). I notice that the author of the article above used his daily ranking to get more people on board.  That's it so far.  Webwire.com has a list of all the sites they post to.  I didn't put myself on some of their sites because the Freebie sites looked like Dollar Stores and I couldn't stand to appear there. Let's see if this makes a difference in sales.

Do share your own strategies.

The one downside of giveaways, according to this author and many others, is that giveaways can produce bad reviews.  People download things they aren't interested in and then give the books bad reviews. We'll see how this goes.
