yes, HBO's true blood is based on charlaine harris's series. i've been watching, so it's interesting to see what they've cut or added. i suppose they're considered mysteries, though, not thrillers?

Ugh, pneumonia -- poor you! Thank goodness for books when you're sick. I haven't read Charlaine -- is that the True Blood origin?

and i was just thinking of the thriller/humor question on my own - been reading and enjoying charlaine harris's dead until dark (i know, i know — i'm late to the party) and just love the humor juxtaposed against the horror. harris has a unique voice and it's been such a pleasure to read (as i recover from pneumonia...).

Good advice, Susan. And congrats on your contract! I love the title.

i just wanted to comment on the use of humor in thrillers — if it's true to who you are as a writer, do it. my first novel, Mr. Churchill's Secretary, was rejected by a number of editors, who didn't really "get" the tone (a mix of suspense, action, adventure, romance and humor). when i asked my agent if i should take the funny bits out, she said (thank goodness) — no, it's your style, you should keep it. wouldn't you know, it finally sold to bantam dell last year in a two-book deal and will be published in the summer of 2011. so, please, stay true to your own voice. the genre doesn't define you — you're creating within a genre.

I've taken a peek at their three new websites. ITW is a great organization. Anybody been to Thrillerfest?

Thanks Amy. I forgot all about Craiglist. Cool tip. Has anyone checked out the new layout for thebigthrill.com or is it org...can't remember. But it's user friendly.

Hey Traci -- that sounds like a fun idea -- I bet Philly has some sort of community pages website where you could check. Maybe even Craigs List...

Does anyone know of any thriller book clubs? I will be returning to my hometown (Philadelphia) early next year and I thinking of starting one. I like being online, but I miss getting out of the house and socializing.
