The guidelines say to include a photo, but they also say they don't accept attachments, or later additions by email. But as far as I know, the only way to include a photo is to attach it. How have other people resolved this?

I had the same problem.  Here's what I did:  Copy and paste your photo into a word doc.  Then re-copy and paste from that word doc to the email.  It worked for me, so maybe it will for you too!

Thanks, Jessica. I was able to copy it into a Word doc (which I'd never tried before either). But I couldn't paste it into my email. Maybe it's a problem with gmail?
Oh yes...I used outlook.  I don't know if it would work with gmail since that's a web-mail.  Darn.  I was hoping it would be solved for you!

I searched (and searched and searched) and did find a gmail work-around. Here it is:

Whether you get tired of writing "see attachment" or you just want your messages to look prettier, you can insert inline images to your messages to dress them up. To get started, follow these steps:
  1. Click the gear icon in the upper-right and select Gmail settings and select the Labs tab.
  2. Select the 'Enable' button next to 'Inserting images'.
  3. Click Save.
  4. When you're composing a message, you'll see an icon in the Gmail toolbar, between the emoji and the link buttons. Click that to insert an image (you can add either a URL or a file you've saved to your computer).
Keep in mind that labs are experimental features and might break or disappear, so if you're experiencing problems with your Gmail after enabling this lab, try disabling Labs as a troubleshooting step.
Wow, thanks for looking into this, Mary. I just ended up sending the photo as an attachment, as a few other people mentioned here, and it was accepted. With gmail the receiver of the email can see a small image of the photo at the bottom of the email even without downloading it.

I just attached a photo from my "Pictures" file and it was accepted. I do believe the restriction had to do with the actual story itself.

.

Glad this worked out -- I'm sure you can understand why we can't open attachments from hundreds of unknown computers!  It's fine to send a second email with the photo pasted into the body if that's easier.

It hasn't worked out for me yet. I haven't been able to post a photo into the body of a gmail message; same problem using my work email.
I sent mine in the body of the email, but it didn't go through.  The Shewrites Team emailed me and told me just to send it as an attachment...and that worked.
Thanks, W.T. That's a relief!

I'm using Mac mail - ALL PHOTOS ARE ATTACHMENTS - There is no way around that. Now what?

Just send it as an attachment.  They took mine as an attachment when it didn't go through the first time, and I'm sure they'll understand.  I think it's just supposed to be a preventative measure against viruses.
