Kathleen - I had no idea....and I'm in Chapel Hill! So sad to hear. I met her at the 2006 Lance Armstrong Foundation Summit on Survivorship...truly wonderful lady. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

The sad news is moving across the Internet: Elizabeth Edwards is in her final days in the battle with breast cancer. God bless and keep her. And let's hope that Professor Tuohy's vaccine and Professor Pogo's work on the virus move along fast enough to save the next, and the next, and the next in this million-women series of catastrophes.

Hi, I just joined She Writes, and this group. I'm currently battling stage 3 IDC and pagets disease. Chemo round 6 of 12 on Monday. I'm so glad to find other writers battling cancer. I write about balancing my cancer treatment with raising my 17 month old daughter in my blog.

Hello Writing Friends, I am the "traveler" mentioned below in another post. I wrote "Private Landscape," as I moved through breast cancer - for the second time. The poems came to me, overlapping themselves. I couldn't seem to get them written down fast enough. My book is available through amazon and mangopress.net. Most importantly, I encourage everyone to keep writing - keep trekking forward. Jaime, I had my surgery and reconstruction performed at Sloan-Kettering. I lead an ongoing writing workshop at the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Hospital. The writing is amazing! I am honored to meet and guide the patients to the blank page to discover what they're feeling. To learn more about what I do in the writing world, please visit: www.womenreadingaloud.org. We're also here as a Group on SHEWRITES. To everyone, a huge embrace.

Welcome, Jaime. I did my fellowship at MSK, and love it, too. I am especially interested in the human mammary tumor virus, aka the pink virus. If you're interested, take a look at a short documentary film I made called, Does a virus cause breast cancer? You can find it in vimeo.com Again, welcome! Kathleen

Hi everyone! I'm glad to be a part of this group. I myself have not had breast cancer, but my grandmother is in remission from Stage IIA breast cancer, my mentor is in remission from Stage IIIC breast cancer, and one of my "other mothers" is living with metastatic breast cancer. I have my MPH with a concentration in women's and children's cancers, and have interned at Memorial Sloan-Kettering....so the human side of cancer is very much a large part of my life, especially since I have an aunt with Stage IV ovarian cancer as well. Julie, I love the term "traveler" - perfect word to describe the journey that cancer thrusts upon you.

Jane Galer, a friend I met online in a writing clinic, suggested I check in with this group. I thank you for that, Galer! I was diagnosed in February with ILC, had a double mastectomy in May, and await what I hope will be a final reconstructive surgery in September. I look forward to reading your stories and poems about your journey and to sharing mine with you.

My surgeon said I was lucky to have had DCIS-ductal carcinoma in situ. "Best kind of breast cancer to have." Six surgeries and complications later, I ended up with a double mastectomy. Haven't quite made peace with my body, the implants, etc. I don't think about it much but every now and then I look at myself and grieve for what I lost, which was more than my breasts.

I'm very glad to be joining this group. Julie, I like the term "traveler" very much. I usually call myself a breast-cancer veteran, having had two tours of duty, in 2001 and 2005-2006.

I started a blog upon my second diagnosis (Once More Unto the Breach)—it's now in its fifth year.

I also published an essay about the experience of being diagnosed in MAMM Magazine.

I look forward to connecting with you all!

"A standalone book app could cost $15,000 to $20,000." How about just a few hundred instead? http://dld.bz/a75x2
