Icebreakers are known to:
  • Create a positive group atmosphere
  • Help people to relax
  • Break down social barriers
  • Energize & motivate
  • Help people to "think outside the box"
  • Help people to get to know one another

Tell us about yourself. Who you are, and what you write! Tell us anything you want us to know. :))

So, to help break the ice with introductions, I'll begin:

I'm Candy, and I'm from Brenham, Texas. I write a little of everything, from Picture Books to Adult Non-Fiction. I have lots of irons in many fires. I love reading and writing YA because it can be racy, yet safe and romantic, yet innocent. I am in love with writing, blogging, tending to my roses, teaching yoga, and being a mom. I'm also a huge fan of the Starbucks Cafe Soy Misto. (And one day, I want to have lunch with Janet Evanovich.)

Correction. I started writing fanfic June 2007

I'm Jennifer McCoy, an ex-professional track and field heptathlete who just can't give up running. I've been writing ever since I can remember - in fact I think I got into trouble as a kid during school when I was writing a story and not doing homework. I primary write YA fiction, it's what I studied in grad school, but have also dabbled in screenplays. While I'm currently working on getting the novel I wrote for my MA thesis published (it's a very unique format that may or may not work for ebooks and self-publishing), I just published the first of a trilogy on Greek mythology on Amazon and B&N for YA fiction entitled 'Atlantis'. You can read more about it at my website. Right now I'm just self-publishing, though I'm trying to find a publishing house that may be interested in publishing it the good ole fashioned way. While I can't wait to get to book two in that series, I'm quickly trying to finish up a novella for all ages based on a track and field runner who tries to make the 2012 Olympic team for the London games!

I love going to movies and try to write reviews of the ones I see on my blog though right now my time isn't always my own. I wish I could just get paid to watch movies and read books, but alas life doesn't always work like that. While I wish I had more time to just write, my 'full-time' job is currently restoring a 140 year old Victorian house while coaching youth track and field and gymnastics. I'm also looking for Prince Charming, so if anyone has seen him riding around on his steed, please let me know :) I'm tried of going to the movies alone.  Visit me at my website to learn more.

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the board! :)   Your book sounds wonderful ~ I recently finished the Percy Jackson series (I like to keep up with what my nephews are reading).  The novella sounds timely as well - how is that coming along, almost done?  Good luck with it! :D

I love that you're restoring a home ~ do you blog about your progess? (I'll check out your site after I leave here.)

I wish I could help you with Prince Charming but unfortunately I'm in the same boat ~ maybe their horses have stopped by a stream or something? lol!  Oh well, I'm sure they're on their way. ;)

Hi Autumn,

Have to say I haven't read the Percy Jackson series, though my younger cousins have I think. I do hear they're pretty good so I may have to put them on my summer reading list.

Yes, I do try and keep a blog on the house. You can see it here - 313eastmain.blogspot.com. As for the novella, I'm still working on it but I think I can get it done - hopefully!

Jen

Hello Faith, welcome aboard! :)  Nice to meet so many new YA writers and writers in general. I'm working hard to get the preview for my YA Paranormal/Romance ready to launch on June 29th. You can read about it and see the cover art on: My Blog

My book preview for Dangerous Temptation is now live here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/172036

Book Blurb:

Seventeen year-old Kaitlin Sinclair's world is turned upside down when she moves to Indonesia, and discovers the secrets that threaten the existence of the enchanting Cadmon and his people. She dives into a foreign culture, full of mystique and dangers everywhere she turns, where keeping her heart safe might prove as impossible as staying alive!

It looks like things have been running smoothly in my absence. Thank you to those who stepped up and welcomed our new members!! It's wonderful to be back, and I look forward to getting to know everyone new!!

We're glad to have you back. I hope your recovery went smoothly. :)

Thanks! I appreciate you thoughts. And yes, recovery went well, and I'm back to normal. Well, as normal as one can be. :)

She Writers - I have been absent from this space for a time but I am a champion lurker and follow the discussion. I am working on a YA novel that I'm hoping to finish the first draft of my August. Doing Camp Nano and trundling along. I have an invitation for you all. I am compiling short prose, poems and songs for an installation - chairs that play audio through hidden speakers when you sit in them. Here's a blog post that describes the project - I'd love to have your contributions. We are talking about 2 minutes of audio - I'll record the work or you can if you are in Seattle this summer. http://bit.ly/KXRxZL

Hi, Tina! Your project sounds extremely interesting! Best of luck to ya. :)

Hello everyone! My name is Crisi. I live in a suburb of San Francisco. I just finished my first non-fiction book, a critical edition of George Meredith's Modern Love for Yale UP; it's available for pre-order now, but won't ship until December 2012. For the past year, one of my best friends and I have been collaborating on a YA novel about a teenaged girl who learns that the father-she-never-knew is king of a land called Ellunna and that everyone in her family has magical powers, including her. We received some helpful feedback on an early version of the novel from two friendly agents we had queried. Now we're in the middle of re-writing––streamlining the plot, building up some previously minor characters, etc. etc. This is our first novel.

I'm looking forward to following this group. It's inspiring to read about everyone's accomplishments . . . . and to see that even the most accomplished of us still struggle sometimes. I'm sure I'll learn quite a bit!
