When do do your first complete read through of your novel?

Started this discussion. Last reply by A.K.Andrew Jul 25, 2012. 6 Replies

I've just finished the 1st draft of my recent novel. Who reads the novel all the way through now? Who leaves it aside for a month or so?

Developing a Plot without Flatlining

Developing the plot for a novel should be like replicating a heart monitor. You want to see ups and downs on the screen, but you don’t want to see it flat lining. There’s nothing more likely to bore the pants off your readers than creating a story without any variation. Think of it in terms of real life’s ups and downs, except in fiction things need to be larger than life,…See More

The Next Big Thing is an author's Work In Progress project  from SheWrites. When I read Jeri Walker-Bickett’s  blog last week,  I immediately thought what fantastic questions for any author to ask themselves. So I was thrilled that afternoon, when Jeri emailed, and invited me to…

And delighted to have you join us in the novelist group! If you haven’t done so already, you might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion. We do a live chat Wednesdays at 1 EST, with instructions on how to participate in the "Our Water Cooler" box near the top of the group page. And we save the wall for discussion, but welcome links to helpful blog posts on the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread and to published books in the “Our Published Novels” one. I hope you’ll enjoy the group.
