Writing 'Well'

Been a while since I've done this - but the usual terrifying insomnia before a stupidly early shift is drawing me back. Something a little less solid this time, but bear with me...I'm currently trying to type up all my relevant material from an old notebook in order to make the (admittedly rather painful) transition to a new one. In doing so I came across this incredibly pretentious and self-important musings on the frustrating and futile process of trying to 'make it' as a writer, and…See More

Writing for Money

Not all art is for sale. I think we all know that, really - don't we? Popular culture is (rather bizarrely) admiring of those 'genius' artists who never made a penny in their own lifetimes, and those of us who have ever studied formally within our chosen creative fields will no doubt have - at some point - encountered a somewhat disdainful attitude from tutors and academics towards 'commercial' work. Now - I'm certainly not of the opinion that commercialism is the way forward and that artistic…See More

Writing With...

For anyone who's still listening - I HAVE STARTED SOMETHING!! It's exciting. It's also terrifying and embarrassing and a little bit ridiculous. But at least I'm putting pen to paper, and I mean that quite literally.I'm sure it's not unusual for a writer to claim that they find their work 'flows' better when they write by hand. I have very specific rules about the materials I use and, ridiculous as they may sound, they've become the only way I can work. Different materials for different tasks,…See More

Writing Resolutions

In keeping with the season, I thought I'd share a few of my resolutions for this year. While I claim to have no particular wisdom to impart (most of this has been stolen piecemeal and reassembled haphazardly over the past few years) - no doubt most writers struggle with similar issues, so this might at least be of interest for that pleasing sense of "Oh yeah - me too"...1. START SOMETHING.I know many writers who say they find it much easier to start a new project than to persevere with one in…See More

Writing at Christmas

I imagine this particular blog should come with some kind of warning. So, if you're reading this whilst watching 'Elf', you probably won't like it.I'm writing this blog whilst sitting in the second most Christmassy room I've had the pleasure of decorating this year - and I've done a fair few (Christmas trees are a weakness of mine, and I spend most of December plotting ways to involve myself in as many as possible). In this particular room, I'm surrounded by home-made decorations (knitted,…See More

Hi Abi,

Thanks for connecting with me so quickly after I responded to your blog post. Funny, only now that I look at your profile I see we have more in common than caring for someone to find time to write. And you have so many more credentials than you let on in your post :-) Housework, a great way for a female playwright and screenplay writer to paint a backdrop that male counter parts may not have that much experience with.

Write on! I look forward to learning more about your work.

Best,

Judith
