Leather Windows

I facilitate a weekly Writing Practicum, where a core group of dedicated writers workshop their projects. One of our members is a very talented writer who specializes in BDSM erotica. The rest of the group -- including me -- are, to put it mildly, "vanillas." We are simply not equipped to intelligently comment on the parts of her writing that make it fall into either the BDSM or erotica genre. We don't read it. And we certainly don't "get it."We're very good at discussing character, plot,…See More

Slaying the Dragon of Authorial Intrusion

or, The Devil is in Zac Efron's DetailsI recently had the extreme misfortune of seeing a film in which everything that can go wrong with both writing and directing came together in a glorious, ghastly, gooey mess and intended to write a post on the Charlie St. Cloud Drinking Game.(For those wondering, the Game includes such rules as:* Take a drink every time a character calls a friend or family member by name, and* Drink every time Charlie repeats himself... Repeats himself.)But that will have…See More

Recovering from Rejection

Few truisms exist in writing. For every writer who swears by an outline, there is one who swears at them. For every writer who needed an agent to make it big, there is one who did just fine without one.But some universals do exist. One is: A Writer Writes. (This has a huge “duh!” factor, but you’d be surprised how many people talk about writing or fantasize about it without actually doing it. This doesn’t make them writers any more than fantasizing about being married helps one find Mr.…See More

Lessons Learned While Walking in an Agent's Shoes

Don’t judge a person, the old adage advises, until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes. Or her heels.I recently experienced, on a small scale, what was very close to a mile in an agent’s life. I confess my eyes were opened to nuances in the submission process that escaped me while walking in my regular Writer’s Shoes. It’s amazing how quickly one learns what makes a submission stand out, what rubs one the wrong way, and what is clearly a waste of everyone’s time when the shoe is on the other…See More

20 Writing Secrets My English Teachers Never Told Me

When I went to University and got my degree (English & Education majors, Communications minor. Notice a trend?), I labored under the impression that Life would be much like Academia.Concerning things like social relationships, employment opportunities, financial responsibility, and nutritional needs ("You mean one can't survive on a diet comprising solely of Coke and Doritos?"), I confess to a certain naivete on my part -- a naivete that is to be expected of one in her late teens. However,…See More

Ami,
I haven't fully dived in but I've heard good things about it. It will meet some of my needs but not all, it just depends on the various blog and web platforms that you already use.

Welcome to the novelist group, Ami. If you're comfortable sharing a description of what you're working on, you might introduce yourself by adding a few lines about it to the Show Me Your Novel and I'll Show You Mine thread.

Looking forward to chatting with you.

Hey Ami,

I'm really surprised that no one has yet invented this! Either a site that you log into to access all your blogs/sites, or at least a post by email feature.

The search continues...

Hi Ami,

I've also been hunting for a program that will allow me to easily cross post to multiple sites. If you find anything, I'd love to know!

Ami, welcome to Screenwriters and Story Editors! We're happy to have you along for the fun. Do drop in to our Introductions thread and share a bit about yourself and your work. Some of us are new to screenwriting and some have been at it a looooong time; it seems from your profile that you may be fairly new to the form? I invite you to pick our brains for resources and tips and whatever, if that is indeed the case (as well as to share your expertise, of course!)
Welcome!
