Believing In Women's Prayer Circles

My BFF, Noelle Alix, and I have been blessed to be a part of a women's prayer circle on and off for a few years. It's a diverse group of women who are on the bumpy road of faith. It was the first such group I've ever been exposed to, where I was completely comfortable to talk about my faith. To talk about how I've leaned on it. How I've questioned it. Until this morning that is. A good friend asked me to come to a prayer circle in her neighborhood. It meets one hour every other week and it's…See More

Believing In Women's Prayer Circles

Our Human Connections Matter

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 1:00pm 6 Comments

I sat next to a warm fire and my BFF, Noelle Alix, amidst a roomful of women last night at Renbrook School in West Hartford, CT to hear a distinguished panel of writers and educators discuss Jonathan Franzen's FREEDOM. I was enlightened and saddened by the talk, which cast a difficult light over the loss of family in our country. The weakening of the bonds between people, and the narcissistic focus on the individual. To one speaker's point, you can no longer find clip art on the internet of…

Women Need Women

It was a bright sunny day when I cut short my typical morning walk with my golden retriever, Dixie, and headed to Joan’s house. My neighbor, Cathleen, had called earlier that morning with news that Joan had to put her oldest golden down the night before, after its yearlong battle with lyme disease. Dog lovers will understand when I tell you this dog survived on little else but love: her love for her human family and their love of her.

As Dixie and I walked along the sidewalk, I could… Continue

Our Box Of Quotes—It's Pure Treasure

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 5:30am 0 Comments

I walked into Noelle’s house through the open front door one afternoon this past September. “Hi!” I said quietly in case she was on a work phone call.

“Hey, I’ll be right there,” she said cheerfully.

Not a minute later, she bound down the stairs holding a bright red shopping bag, a Picasso-style portrait of a woman on one side.

“Merry Christmas, Ange!” she said with a happy smile as she handed it to me.

“Oh my gosh!” I said with surprise, taking the… Continue
