Is Switching Genres part of the creative process?

Did you ever switch genres in the middle of writing your first draft?I am writing my first novel, first draft and I switched genres from fantasy to scifi when I discovered that my voodoo spirits are aliens with advanced technology that resembles magic. How do you solve the problem of genre switching in a novel? I have another question.  Are Scifi and Fantasy genres flip sides of the same coin?Let me know what you think about this.  :)See More

What makes fashion so provocative?  Where did princess Ardala get her horned headdress in the Buck Rogers TV series?  Where did the sisters of Paul Atreides's mom get their steeple hats?

Please check out my 25 second video at the bottom of my blog.

Thanks for the comment on my sci fi blog post! I will definitely start thinking about how to portray her physical features - I already have a few half-baked ideas, since she is supposed to go unnoticed in human society.

This all sounds interesting. Think I should read some steampunk and find out more. Thanks for the explanation. Re my novel - I'll be developing a blog specifically about my book eventually. Then I'll be posting about it here. You'll get the chance to get freebies and chapter excerpts etc from that. I really must pull my finger out and get on with it!! ;D

Ann - thanks for the comment on yesterday's post of three links. I imagine with two of those lists having a number of links within them that you found something of value in them. Trying to do a daily three from different blogs every day.

Glad you enjoy it, Ann. The guest posts run here, but the full blog is at http://www,megwaiteclayton.com/1stbooks.shtml if you can stand even more inspiration. Really great post this week, which is a rerun by New York Times bestseller (as of last week!) Tatjana Soli, who posted for me the week The Lotus Eaters came out in paperback.
