A touch of loss

Well, summer is over and autumn has arrived.  The colors are beautiful and the mornings are crisp- just the perfect time for a walk in the park. So, walking stick in hand, I head out. Taking my time, I feast on the beauty of the meandering river, the size, shapes and colors of individual leaves and the solitude of the moment.  I feel tears well up in my eyes as I hear the leaves crunch beneath my feet.  With the beauty comes a sense of loneliness and loss.   I know why.  Every year at this…See More

How's your memory?

I turn to my husband as we are driving down the highway and ask, “Did you notice if I turned off the pot of chili on the stove?” For the life of me, I cannot remember. Or, my husband asks me, “Did I shut the garage door?” I didn’t notice and he’s not sure whether he did or not. We replay the scenarios in our mind but to no avail. So what do we end up doing? We turn around, of course, and go back home only to find that everything is all right. The first thing we ask ourselves is, "Is this the…See More

reflection

It seems that I have been doing nothing but saying farewell to people I know. If it isn't cancer, it's a heart attack or a tragic accident that takes them away. Right now I am looking through one of my favorite books. I find something Henri Nouwen writes that I need to reflect on. In Here and Now he says, "Hope is more real than despair, faith more real than distrust, and love more real than fear."

Play, don't always take life so seriously.

I am a very serious person. As a child, I was serious. But now, I have learned through experience that we need to allow ourselves to let go, be free and play. I express it in this poem that I have written.Oh, To Be A Child AgainOh, to be a child again.Easily pleased,Imaginative- free from self inflicted boundaries,Full of life, love and awe,Oh, to let my inner child free.Free to enjoy,Free to play,Free to fly,Free to be the true ME.So I release the fear.I silence the inner chidingsAnd avoid the…See More
