Is Déjà Vu the right word?

Do you sometimes find yourself in a situation where you feel you’ve done the exact same thing before? As if you were repeating your life? A little bit of Groundhog Day maybe?I know this is commonly called déjà vu, and while I know what it means in French (namely “already seen”), I looked up what meaning the phrase has taken on in English because what I was trying to describe is more than just visual. Webster’s defines déjà vu as, “a. the illusion of remembering scenes and events when…See More

Profile Information

Who I am:
I am a nonfiction writer. I am currenlty seeking representation for my memoir about an impossible love that succeeded (mine and my husband’s) even though that same constellation, the forbidden love between a German and a Jew, had failed in my family before and was the previous generation’s ultimate nightmare. My essays have appeared in many literary journals. I hold an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte, teach memoir writing at StoryStudio Chicago and English composition at Kaplan University, and do communications work for my children’s school. I live in Chicago with my husband and three children.
