Profile Information

Who I am:
www.beatrizterrazas.com
www.mymothersbrain.wordpress.com
Books I've written, anthologies I've contributed to, and any scripts or plays I've authored:
Literary El Paso, TCU Press
Media outlets that I currently write for:
On a freelance basis I write for The Progressive Media Project, The Texas Observer, The Dallas Morning News. I've also been published in Cure, Skirt!, and The Washington Post. I've got upcoming essays in D magazine, and the Texas Observer, and maybe another piece in More.

I am also a photographer. I spent the first 12 years of my career as a photojournalist, enjoying assignments all over the country, and internationally, as well. I covered the United Nations Conference on Women in China in 1995, Pope John Paul II's visit to Cuba in 1998, and worked in Mexico and Brazil on a project about violence against women for The Dallas Morning News. That project won a team Pulitzer.

Naturally, my combined love of words and images means that I enjoy working on multimedia projects as much as possible these days. The texture of photography set against spoken words and audio is magical to me. I also do work as a producer from time to time, simply because of this love of images.

I'm a Nieman Fellow, class of 1999, and a member of ASJA and the Macondo Writers Workshops.
My writing is:
Fiction, Nonfiction, Journalism, Blog Posts
Outlets where I review books, TV, or film:
Yes
Services I offer to other writers:
Not officially. I've led a writing workshop at UNT's annual Mayborn Conference for four years, and have guest taught at the Poynter Institute, The Writer's Garret, the Highland Park Literary Festival, and in private settings such as writing groups. I am a big believer in mentoring, which I also did on an unofficial basis during my two decades as a journalist. But I am hard at work on a novel and a possible memoir, and those things coupled with long-distance caregiving of my mother are enough to fill my hours for now!
I'm part of these writers' groups or salons:
Yes
My professional associations:
Macondo Writers Workshop, founded by Sandra Cisneros
American Society of Journalists and Authors

I just opened the door to the novelist group for you - welcome! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday; hope you can join us for that!
