I'm very glad you chose to share this! ISMS (sexism, racism, ageism etc) are certianly real and when one shines the light on the obvious, I believe it is required for us all to pull back and exam. That's why such sites as this, SHE writes are essent…

What a great post -- I especially like this observation: "I think part of the answer lies in the gender issue itself. Women are more likely to read a man’s book, whether it has been written by a man, or is just more geared toward a male audience. My…

Clear as mud. And I did an informal count on the top 100 and it looks about 70% male. Hmmm. Perhaps part of the problem is with the publishers themselves? If the books written by women are not getting published they can't get on the list now can the…

Disturbed? Well, yes...

Publishers Weekly announced their list of the top 100 books published in 2009 and were “disturbed” to find that the top ten contained not a single woman. In fact, the top 100 was close to 70% male. I find this disturbing on several levels. First, what are the criteria for a ‘best’ book? Are women somehow less capable of writing a ‘best’ book? Or is it that publishers are more eager to publish books written by men? How can it be that in a society that is predominantly female in general and in an… Continue

Well Beth,do you believe in co-incidences,oh!well I should ask you something different but similar too.I'll tell you here's what happened,
I got a message of the shewrites.com blog update in my inbox and so came in here to take a look at the post and what was it about.I read the whole thing and could think about two people, two women and no one else.Linda Gracia and you(and this is not I the order I thought,I thought about you two at the same micro second,it did not take me any longer to figure,my she writer whom I had to 'Shout at,lol') were the only people I could think about when I read about 'Shouting to a She Writer'.
Well while I was reading through the blog post I also saw a mention of mentioning the link of the blog of the writer, one was Shouting at,therefore I came to your page to copy the link of your blog on my comment and saw your update on your shewrites page, which made me happy, really happy, happy enough :)
Just wanted to say thanks, thank you so much,
And now you decide what to call this,
Well,I might try too,its our friendship,true friendship,
I am glad at it!

Welcome to the NaNoWriMo-group, Beth!
I am glad to see another Nano-veteran on board. I only took part once before, and the input from seasoned Nano-authors into the group was really great, from plotting (or not-plotting) beforehand to tricks how to follow the story through hills and valleys.
I am looking forward to seeing you around She Writes and the group :-)

Thank you so much for taking part, and for posting your thoughtful comments and your blog. I am honored and inspired! Also Alicia Ostriker, who is an award-winning poet and a role model for us all, wrote to me earlier today to say what you said -- that even if you dig into the 100 Best Books of the PW list you only get about 25% women. NOT OK PW!
Warm best,
Kamy

My cousin, Em, doesn't see it. She sees a plain face, limp hair, fat rolls, etc. But to me she's beautiful, and maybe I'm biased, but she's the most beautiful woman I've ever known or seen. It's because she's the sister I never had, my sister in Chr…
