NaNoNonSense a.k.a. NaNinSanity and the Evil Word Count

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 10:30am 8 Comments

So, it’s 2:05 AM, Eastern Standard Time, in Florida, on Thursday, November 3, 2011, and I haven’t yet achieved my Evil Word Count for Wednesday, November 2, 2011, Day 2 of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo to those in the know).

If you’re unfamiliar with NaNoWriMo, here’s the premise in its simplest terms: Between November 1 and November 30, write a novel of at least 50,000 words, then upload it to the NaNo website for Evil Word-Count verification. If you’re successful, you get…

Candice, Delighted to have you in the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. We save the wall for discussion, so please refrain from linking to blog posts there, but do add them in the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread. And we do a live chat every Wednesday at 1EST; instructions on how to participate are in the "Our Water Cooler Wednesdays" box near the top of the group page. Hope you can join us for that.

Hi Candice- please do have her contact me! Our younger son is adopted and our older one is biological - four years between them. They're 22 and 26 and it's taken me this long to recognize so many issues no one ever talks about, especially when in comes to families in which there are both adopted and biological children. Perhaps it's a fear of seeming politically incorrect or insensitive or maybe even worrying about others perceiving us as exhibiting favoritism, but I've been writing a fair amount about this recently. I do think these issues are much more out in the open than they were even a mere 10 years ago as the number of adoptions, especially trans-national ones, in America has increased. So so much more complex than anyone ever fesses up to! Thanks for the note.

Goodbye, Cursive: Why I'll Miss You

I spent second grade trying to please Mrs. Rebscher. She had a paddle, and she wasn’t afraid to use it on any seven-year-old who got out of line. Under her watchful eye, we worked hard on our penmanship. Graduating from printing to cursive was proof…See More
