Three Great New Books for Writers

I'm a sucker for a good how-to book. I'm currently reading two books about how to make stories better that are really, really helpful. Wired for Story by Lisa Cron is a great look at how the brain works and why readers like what they like. Wise writers (which I hope I am) would do well to put these insights to use. Cron blogs at Writer Unboxed (where I also am a contributor) and has a …See More

The Best Writing Advice YA Novelist Kimberly Reid Ever Got

Kimberly Reid is author of the Langdon Prep YA mystery series, featuring a high school girl named Chanti Evans, who's mom is an undercover copy. Book 2, Creeping With the Enemy, is out this week. Since I'm writing an advice book for writers, I've been asking…

One knuckleball pitch, one sentence at a time

Posted on April 11, 2012 at 6:30am 2 Comments

Writers pitch stories. Pitchers pitch baseballs. Maybe there's some overlap. I heard a story on "Fresh Air" yesterday with knuckleball pitcher R. A. Dickey. It's a fascinating interview even if you aren't a baseball fan or a…

September 15th marks my 7th year reading to Head Start students as part of the Denver Public Library's Read Aloud Program. Which reminded me about this post with tips for better author readings originally published on The Pajama Gardener, my blog about writing & gardening in my pajamas.

Why I chose to go ebook for my 3rd novel

Posted on July 5, 2011 at 6:00am 10 Comments

You don't need me to tell you that the ground is shifting under writers' feet. You can feel it yourself. So I'll leave off the primer about how publishing is changing due to technology and the economy and who knows what else.

I do want to point out, however, that while the…

Carleen, that would be great.  I'm meeting with
Jefferson Patrick, owner and barista, on Aug.
18th to talk about dates for readings.  I work
with Jefferson as a volunteer because I
think it's important to provide a local, independent
spot where authors can read and sell their books.
We will be talking about times for readings -
evenings vs mid-day - and other details.  Do
you have specific dates available?  If so,
let me know and we'll see how we can arrange
it.
We'd love to have you at RWB!
Warmly,
Andi

Hi Carleen,

I will co-presenting with two other writer friends on writing op-ed pieces and getting pieces ready for submission to the Denver Post Colorado Voices contest. All three of us have been chosen in the past. My section will be on using blogging to strength your writer's voice and to use as it a platform to write concise and compelling pieces.

Look forward to meeting you!
