Where The Wild Things Are. ..R.I.P. Maurice Sendak. What children's stories inspire you?

Why do I picture Maurice Sendak on a private boat?As Max, making mischief, exploring once again, where the wild things are, the king of all wildthings? Sailing into the night?May this transformational children's writer rest in peace.May his stories live on and inspire future generations, as they inspired me and so many others. I was a wild, motherless childas a young girl--and yet, in my heart, I was Max too. Though no one hadmy supper waiting for me, still hot, when I got home. I had to make it…See More

Madam Lichtenstein Interview -- Is your fate as a writer in the stars? Expert advice from published author and astrologer extraordinaire!

I am a skeptical believer when it comes to all things astrology.  What does that mean?  I read my horoscope religiously.  I have even had my “chart” done to assess my fate in the publishing world. But even so, I question how much is in the stars and how much is in ourselves when it comes to the creative sphere. In trying to figure this out, this week, I interviewed Madam Lichtenstein aka Charlene Lichtenstein, author of…See More

SEND YOURSELF A REJECTION LETTER via the Rejection Generator. It's actually fun!

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 6:00am 1 Comment

Everyone hates receiving rejection letters --it hurts so much, the letters, even if they are "standard" rejections, essentially form letters, are painful.  But one clever indie publisher,  The Stoneslide Corrective, has turned this idea on its head. I discovered the Stoneslide Corrective website via the always insightful publishing industry blog: …

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 12:00pm 2 Comments

TGIF!

Or not?

Do you take the weekend off as a writer or is this when you do hunker down at the computer?  Since I am lucky enough to have writing as my primary "job," (in between teaching college part-time and raising two young kids), I sometimes do take the weekend off.  But not all the time.  Sometimes I write straight through the weekend (in between soccer games and birthday parties), but then I feel like…
