Write Some Wonder On Your Heart

As a society, it seems we have lost the art of committing things to memory. If we need to remember something, we Google it. In the old days, people could recite sonnets to their lovers. There are stories of prisoners of war staying sane throughout their captivity by holding onto great swaths of Scripture they’d memorized. I was in awe of a professor in college who could quote poems and passages from literature as if she had written them herself. What a wonderful thing to make something…See More

Learn Something New

We often chug along in the same deep tracks day to day, hauling our burdens along with us, blind to the view because it’s so familiar. Jump the rails this week by learning something new. Try your hand at a new skill, take a class, read something outside of your normal repertoire…acquire some information that will take you down a new path and improve your life, your mental state, or at the very least, create some wonder.Check out…See More

Stimulate Your Senses

At the Alemany Farmer’s Market this weekend, the largest and oldest farmer’s market in San Francisco, I was absolutely overcome by the wonders of fresh produce. We strolled past booth upon booth of gorgeous fruits, veggies and flowers. We smelled mouth-watering basil, tasted the sweetest summer peaches, and heard the satisfying thunk of ripe melons as we tap-tested their taut rinds. We went a little crazy and bought huge bouquets of bright, happy flowers, a bag of oysters, brussel sprouts,…See More

Create A Space to Wonder In

While walking the dogs in a huge park in the city the other day, I came across this:Someone had seen a huge fallen tree and was inspired to gather branches to build an Andy Goldsworthy-esque wall. They used the shape of the dead tree as a dramatic entrance and extended a circular space from it that felt sacred inside. Same woods, same ground, but now it felt hallowed, special, set apart. It was like an invitation to come in and contemplate the beauty of the surroundings from this open air…See More

Cassy, I never got a message you sent the second message to me! I just stumbled upon it! I'm so sorry. To answer your questions, I loved reading to the children. I loved selecting new titles for my shelves. I loved being around books and never grew tired of dealing with them, sharing them with kids or helping them find new ones. For the past two years, my job inspired me to mostly write for children. However, just last week, I reisigned from the school district after 4.5 years. The workload finally did me in. But I encourage you to go for it, if being a Librarian is what you are interested in! I didn't have much support and that is the only reason I left. Because the job itself, I adored. I just couldn't do it all by myslef. I wish you the best of luck!

Cassy Lee, Way to go! I've not finished school, not even close! The way our school district works is there is one head Librarian (w/degree) and she is over her four assistants (me, being one). I am the only "librarian" on campus. I run classes, Accelerated Reader Program, process new books / videos and schedule 36 classes. I have over 720 students and deal with 46 teachers! It's a ton of work & fun. If you're wanting to pick my brain for your master's program, I can't offer anything, but support and "way to go!" If you ever need to pick my brain about what sort of books we buy or what grades I work with or how I run classes or AR, you just let me know!

Cassy Lee,

Got your adorable Animal Mashups children's book in the mail today. I think it is a great product...great idea...my 4 and 7 year old sons are sitting by the woodburning stove laughing at all the funny combinations of animal heads with different bodies. Clever...good luck with finding a publisher, I can't imagine that'd be too hard since the idea sells itself. I love it too that they can color it in. I could see having two products--coloring book version, plus book format (color version).

Thanks again Cassy!!

Hi Cassy. I went to your blogsite and LOVED it. I just started blogging and would love some constructive comments/suggestions, criticisms. I am an educational/school psychologist and my blog is directed toward parents to help literally create and sustain wonder and love for learning in their kids.

As I am new to blogging, I am not that sophisticated. I would love to leave suggest your blogsite. Could you maybe leave it in the comments so others can see it AND maybe tell me how to add it? Thanks.
