Anthologies Aren't Dead

I usually don't share my sources because I'm a selfish writer but after the debate with the anthology feature on She Writes, I felt it was my duty to disprove this statement: "Anthologies are such an unpopular model that most publishing houses simply won't do them." There are other anthologies, they do pay, and they are looking for submissions. This anthology featuring Werewolves states, "Due to the massive number of…See More

10 Rules to Submitting.

These are based on my own experiences  Sure, they're a bit redundant if you've done your own research or have been writing/submitting for awhile but maybe someone will find them helpful. :)1. WRITE: You aren't a "writer" if you don't and the more you write the more you improve.2. READ: Read the good and the bad so you can recognize the differences between both and apply that knowledge to improving your own work.3. Profile Information

Who I am:
Where to start? Hmm? I am complex! Yes! And yet when trying to describe myself, when trying to capture my essence, I find myself unable to fill the white void! …But, apparently being a bit melodramatic comes easily. Well, Before you read any further, (And I must assume that you will, otherwise, what would be the point of continuing?) I must warn you of my current state. I have been up for more than twenty-four hours, and have plied myself with various sorts of caffeine. (I am supposed to be writing, but instead I have been procrastinating by watching anime and listening to Portishead.) When I haven’t slept, I tend to get, chatty. I ramble. I can go on, and on, and…on. So keep that in mind as you read. (Again, still assuming that you are.) *Ahem* So. About me.

I write. (I know. “Duh.”) I have a first draft, or rather a “draft zero” of my first novel, it’s a bit over 50,000 words, and I’m struggling with the rewrite because my main character is…well, she is being difficult. But I have at least ten other “Novel” ideas, (Yes, bad pun intended.) The one I’ve written (and am working on) is a historical fiction novel set during the American Civil War, about a confederate nurse who happens to be a vampire. It’s more Historical Fiction than Fantasy though because the setting and the history are very, very important and the vampirism, (and the werewolf and zombies which come in later in the series,) is intended to have a realistic feel.

My other Novel ideas range from western adventure to gothic horror to steam punk supernatural detective. So, my interests are varied.

Though my novel progression kind of sucks, I’ve been pretty busy with my short stories. Interestingly, the one subject I’ve never really had much interest in, (that would be zombies,) is where I’ve had my greatest success (to date). I’ve had one zombie story published, with two more forthcoming, and I am rewriting one, while finished another, both zombies. Not to mention the three other basic outlines I’ve made based on some other ideas for zombies.

So, I guess that takes care of the writing bits, without going into too much detail. (If you’re interested in more specifics, I try to keep my blog updated.)

Moving on to the general portion of today’s show…

I’m 27, I enjoy reading, writing, cooking, gaming, movies, bizarre cartoons, Chinese food, red wine and dark chocolate, and a million other little things. I moved to Indianapolis 9 months ago, I live in an awesome apartment in a non-walk able part of town. I haven’t really had a chance to meet anyone here. Seriously, I import my friends from neighboring towns, so I’m happy to meet anyone from the area. I hope to be starting school in the fall (Waiting to see what kind of financial aid I qualify for.) and hopefully I’ll get to attend some of the nanowrimo write ins this year.

Well, that’s me. Kind of. Well, it will work I suppose.
Feel free to contact me if you like. I’m kind of shy when I’m not half asleep and caffeinated, so I may not “reach out” as much as I’d like to. I’m working on that though.
