What did you learn from NOT WINNING the We Love New Novelists Contest?

OK, it's been a week. Time to sort out the dust bunnies from the dust we all picked up rolling around in dejection for not winning.  Here's something great that I learned. My story The Garden of Loss…Continue

DOES PHOTOGRAPHY HELP YOU "SEE" BETTER AND IMPROVE YOUR WRITING?

Posted on December 29, 2011 at 12:06pm 7 Comments

Does anyone else use photography to add to your observational skills in writing? I take my pocket-size Canon S95 with me wherever I go. Caught this mundane scene of a traffic cop directing people out of a garage on a gray day in Seattle. The light gathering of this camera is awesome, but even better, it made me "see" the scene with new eyes. Love to see your work if you're doing this.…

What does your author photo say about you? Two She Writers rock.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 1:09pm 6 Comments

Since joining She Writes, I've been wondering why so many writers are spending hours and hours crafting their written words while spending such little time presenting themselves well visually. Go to the membership page and pick out 5 photos and random. How many writers would you like to get to know?  The reality is that it's a visual world and writers who want to create a great platform have to think about their author portrait and…

It was so lovely to meet you! I'm on the train back into Chicago from Highland Park now, so sorry I missed the morning gathering. I do think we should do an AWP recap on She Writes...

Hi Cynthia!  I just did a second post about the AWP event -- the first one didn't seem to reach all the relevant people.  Do you mind posting the info about your panel again there?  It's on the main page of SW now...see you in Chicago!

Hi, Cynthia,

I'd love to attend your panel and meet you at AWP. I have yet to plan my days at the Conference, but will contact you at a later date to see if we can get together. Thanks for reaching out!

Cynthia, definitely, let's try to meet up at AWP. I will only be there on Saturday and I'm reading on a panel just before the She Writes event. But maybe earlier on Saturday? :-)

Hi Cynthia,

I'm not sure actually. I don't think the fact that you're writing will affect your experience of the class too much. We're prepared to answer any questions you might have about fiction---and the issues you face as a writer are certainly the same! :)

Cynthia,

I'm so flattered! Yes, of course you can use my photo for your class. What address should I email the bigger photo to?

I use this picture on all my social media sites - I guess I'm doing a good job branding :-)

Here is the link to my blog www.cheeriosandpearlsstories.blogspot.com

I need to change the address to my name but I'm having some issues with that. My Twitter, Facebook etc. are all under Angela Orlowski-Peart

I live in Seattle and would love to learn more about your class. Can you email me with some details?

Thanks,

Angela Orlowski-Peart

Hi Cynthia, I think we have five people committed so far. We won't do the class unless we have at least several more than that, so I do hope you'll sign up! Let me know if you have any questions.
