- Who I am:
- I'm Miriam Peskowitz, bestselling author of The Daring Book for Girls (and other books besides!) Welcome to my new project, The Daring Writers Guide, written expressly for SheWrites.
Every Thursday this Spring, I'll be posting on She Writes my post-bestselling-author thoughts about writing; my motherly views on the dailiness of life as a writer and parent; how I manage to keep at a creative, writing life, and what I'm learning from my new interest in bodywork (and how it relates to our lives as writers). It's all united under the theme of daring, of summoning the courage to step into the daunting unknown.
The Daring Writers Guide will come in sixteen or so segments, depending.
Most importantly, thank you for reading. I'll love to hear everyone's comments and thoughts, and topics you would like to hear about.

- The Daring Book for Girls. Fourteen weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers List, and an inspiration to girls everywhere.
The Double-Daring Book for Girls. The follow-up.
Two cute little pocket versions of the Daring Book for Girls: Things to Do, and Wisdom and Wonders.
Lots of foreign translations of The Daring Book for Girls, and special English language editions for Australia, and for the United Kingdom, and even a video game called The Daring Game for Girls, for Wii and DS.
And though it's not a book, after all this, I got to host a one-hour TV special called Daring Kids with Miriam Peskowitz, which aired on PBS. Loads of fun, and available as a DVD at www.daringkids.com.
The Truth Behind the Mommy Wars. A non-fiction, journalistic account of how the Mommy Wars debates were created, and the implications for our everyday lives as mothers. Seal Press, 2005.
Spinning Fantasies: Rabbis, Gender and History. An academic exploration of the gendered origins of a classic religious tradition. Not easy reading, but much-loved by feminist students of religion, ancient history and gender, published by the University of California Press in 1998 and amazingly, still in print.
Judaism Since Gender. Sometimes you just have to take on a classic religious tradition, and imagine what would be different if women's lives and insights were taken seriously, and if it wasn't filled with constricting identities for both women and men. Published by Routledge back in the late 90's glory days of cultural studies and co-written with the awesome Laura Levitt.
