"I'd have to agree Carolyn. I've never had someone ask me "Who's your publisher?" It's always been "Cool! What's your book about?" or (even better for me) "Where can I get it?""

Why Do You Write and What's Your Process

As an author, psychotherapist, wife, and mother who also does abstract paintings and studies her dreams I am incredibly interested in hearing authors discuss what brought them to writing, and the process by which they continue creating.

A Question of Labels: On Calling My Work "African-American" Fiction

I was reading Lori Tharps's blog post today and it got me thinking: What if I don't call my fiction "African-American"? What if I don't label myself? Will others yet label me?

Like so many black authors who (of course) know readers of every color and ethnicity, I've struggled with the genre label for many reasons. For one thing, we're the only group who has this (little) section devoted to our work in some… Continue

Dasaya, your cover is really terrific. I love to see it, but wonder if it could be seen a little more discreetly on the "Our Published Novels" thread in the novelist group? Instructions for downsizing are in the thread intro - it's very easy to do - and the page you posted on should be HERE. If it's not, it's likely because someone has posted a response to a comment and it's slipped a page, so then you might try page 12 of the thread. If it's beyond the time to revise the post by the time you get this, you can delete it by clicking the x and then repost.

I keep wishing for something like the group bookshelves they have on Goodreads. Will look forward to chatting with you in the group. And congrats on the book!

Glad to have you in the publishing news group, Dasaya. We’d love to have you join us in the Novelists – Struggling or Not group too, and in SF Bay Area writers (I'm presuming from examiner.com that you're bay area, or at least interested in Bay area.)
