An Invitation

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 6:31am 0 Comments

You are invited to consider new possibilities with me in the pages of MisBehave. I invite you to listen to the stories of the women who have been my guides, my examples, my teachers, and my inspiration. I invite you to allow their stories to enter your mind, to aid you in your own process of self-discovery and…

Dogs Only Bark At Things That Move

A friend once told me about a missionary he knew who worked faithfully for many years in a part of the world where a deeply entrenched state religion made his work very difficult—even dangerous, sometimes. Yet he never tired of carrying out what he believed was his calling from God, no matter how difficult things got, how lonely he felt sometimes, or how far away success often seemed to be.

Once, when the missionary was asked how he felt about facing such constant opposition, he…

I Am Strong, I Am Invincible, I Am Woman...

Helen Reddy's 1970 hit, I Am Woman was viewed as a rallying cry for many women during "second wave" feminism. The following verse, "You can bend but never break me, 'cause it only serves to make me more determined to achieve my final goal" reminds me how much our gender has overcome since the beginning of time. The following quote is another reminder that we still have a long way to go:

"Because women's work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious…

No Title or Status is Required for a Person to Make a Difference—Only Conviction

"The problem lay buried, unspoken, for many years in the minds of American women. It was a strange stirring, a sense of dissatisfaction, a yearning that women suffered in the middle of the twentieth century in the United States. Each suburban wife struggled with it alone. As she made the beds, shopped for groceries … she was afraid to ask even of herself the silent question—'Is this all?’"

No one can deny our world is rapidly changing before our eyes. Uprisings in the Middle…

Thanks so much, Dawn. I love the concept of your group and the conversations you've started there. It's so important not to let yourself get held back by the barricades other people throw up to try to block you. And it's always easier, not to mention much more fun, to do that arm in arm with friends/comrades. I'm hoping to find that kind of support/inspiration/sisterhood here.

Hi Dawn! Thx for introducing me to She Writes. It seems like such an inspirational place. I've lost my way and can't seem to find the drive to wrote or blog but I'm pushing forward so that some time soon I will begin again. I'm still trying to find your blog post from this morning so I can leave a comment. You did a great job!

I am enjoying myself as I stroll through the different rooms of the members at She Writes. I left a comment about your wonderful blog today and I visited your blog site. The ladies here (including you) just amaze and inspire me. This being my second wind I can't wait to learn all I can and to grow into this next phase of my life. Keep doing what you're doing and please let me know when your book comes out. Thanks for the visit to your "room just got bigger" today.

Remain the strong woman that you are we need you
