Good or Bad, Our Words and Actions Have An Impact

Along with the rest of the country, I've been reading, listening, and watching coverage of this past Saturday's tragedy in which a 22-year-old opened fire on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her staff and supporters - an event which left 6 people dead and 14 wounded - with horror and sadness. That such terrible acts of violence happen at all is incredibly disturbing...it's the kind of thing that shakes you up to your very soul.In the days since the shooting, the media and certain…See More

Hi there -- just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally (or at least virtually) to our first-ever She Writes Seattle meetup, celebrating our first-anniversary! We are so grateful to the event's organizer, Judith van Praag, for taking a risk and stepping up to host. I hope you will support her and bring yourself and other women who write (no need for them to be members) to the Seattle gathering. At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Judith here.

Jeannette LeSure commented on the blog post 'I could only write my memoir…After my mother had died'
My father's death opened the closet of horrible memories and I began to write "ugly" as I called it then. I began to reach for some honesty in my writing as I went through three years of frequent flashbacks--not of HIM, but of another…

Jeannette LeSure commented on the blog post 'How to Write Memoir? 1. Forget Writing Prompts and Exercises 2. Stake Out Your Territory'
While I agree that we can get carried away and even use prompts and exercises as effective avoidance techniques to tell ourselves, well, we ARE writing something, I found two books and a couple of classes to be enormously helpful in getting me going…
