Work, School, Meds, and a Petition

It's been a long time since I've updated! I've been busy with life, and haven't had time to write. I've been working as a freelance copywriter for a Marketing company in Florida for a while now. I've been writing Press Releases, Blog Articles, Email Drips, a Q&A, FAQ, etc. It's good work and I enjoy it - for the most part. I enjoy the blog articles the most, but also like doing the press releases. The company is called Transformational Outsourcing, and hopefully it'll look good on my resume…See More

CHARACTERS

No matter what genre your fiction falls into, we all have one thing in common, we have to populate our work with people.  This group is for discussing those characters who add life to our novels.

Novelists (Struggling or Not)

Novelists - published or not - chatting about beginnings, muddy middles, dang endings, what to do with it all. Please don't shout (all caps, big images) or post links on the main wall except as part of the conversation. Please do include modestly sized covers in "Our Published Novels"See More

What's Your Default?

I used to walk around all the time with a smile on my face.  My co-workers teased me by calling me "Smiley" and commented on how it made their day to see me because I always had a big, ear-to-ear smile on.  Even when I was crying inside, my default facial expression was a smile.I walked with a spring in my step, a smile on my face; that was my default.I don't smile as much anymore.  There's not so much spring in my step as slump.  My default facial expression isn't a frown, but its second…See More

"Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die."

The original quote goes, "Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die".  Tennyson was writing about soldiers riding to their deaths, but the tweaked quote actually provides some pretty good words to live by.

Think about it.  Life sucks sometimes.  Stuff happens, and a lot of the time there doesn't seem to be a reason for it.  You've gotta keep on going, or else…

"Braaaaaaains," Moans the Zombie; and I Am Not Heroic.

I've been thinking a lot about brains lately.  I'll get to the zombies in a bit; first I wanna talk about brains.  If that bores you just skip it.

The human mind is an amazing thing.  The way it works - or doesn't work - is fascinating.

Brains are like…

Dei, Delighted to have you in the novelist group. If you haven’t done so already, you might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion.

We do a live chat at 1 EST on the first Wednesdays of each month, with instructions on how to participate in the "Our Water Cooler" box near the top of the group page. And we save the wall for discussion, but welcome links to helpful blog posts on the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread and to published books in the “Our Published Novels” one.

I hope you’ll enjoy the group.

Novelist Group Moderator
Author of The Wednesday Sisters (a nationally bestselling writing group novel) and the forthcoming The Wednesday Daughters (Random House/Ballantine)

Goodbye, Cursive: Why I'll Miss You

I spent second grade trying to please Mrs. Rebscher. She had a paddle, and she wasn’t afraid to use it on any seven-year-old who got out of line. Under her watchful eye, we worked hard on our penmanship. Graduating from printing to cursive was proof…See More
