Bio:

Dory Adams lives in Pittsburgh and earned her MFA from Vermont College. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine, The Santa Fe Literary Review, The Avery Anthology, Hamilton Stone Review, Blue Earth Review, Hobart, Slipstream, Forge, Word Riot, The Oklahoma Review, Common Ground Magazine, Shalla Magazine, and Paper Street. Her story “Tests and Measurements” which appeared in Workers Write! Tales from the Clinic was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2009. She is currently working on a novel titled The October Earth and writes her weekly blog In This Light at www.doryadams.com.

...btw, meant to mention I'm a fan of Tawni O'Dell's too. Read Back Roads when it was first pubbed (before Oprah) as it had been taken on by her agent who took that chance. look at her now, right? had a client at the time that was working with agent on another project.

I really enjoyed your recent post on Walker Evans and the photograph as story--the way Evans would select the objects to be included in a photograph in order to tell a story. The photograph at the top of the post illustrates what Mellow said about Evans' photographs: that they "appear to be taken with a novelist’s eye" and that the objects Evans includes “define character and circumstances, time and place.”
