Lessons of 2010 - share the story and 'calm down'

It is important to talk about your writing. Since I have returned to my dissertation writing this year, I still long for the novel whose research started it all. I started talking about the story, how it informed my dissertation writing process and vice versa. I did volunteer work in the setting of the novel and it changed me in unexpected ways--the reason there's a PhD in the works, not an MFA...And in both writing processes, feedback I have received from committee members and friends: calm…See More

Thank you for your post. Music sometimes help me to write when the silence overwhelms the possibilities. As for Christmas music, I completely agree, the Friday after Thanksgiving is too early.

Hi there -- just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally (or at least virtually) to our first-ever She Writes Chicago meetup, celebrating our first-anniversary! We are so grateful to the event's organizer, Eileen O'Halloran, for taking a risk and stepping up to host. I hope you will support her and bring yourself and other women who write (no need for them to be members) to the Chicago gathering. At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Eileen here.

Hello, Erika

'much to digest' meant - 'Oh my goodness, this is a really intelligent, thought-provoking blog and I'm just breezing in, so rather than say too much and look stupid, I'll say as little as possible - but I'll be back.' Something like that, anyway! I thought I had 'followed' yr blog but I just popped back now and apparently I hadn't, so I've rectified that, at least.

I have just signed up for She Writes and I'm trying to visit as many blogs as possible - glad to have found yours.

Hello there!
How are you?
Are you up to anything new in your life?
It's been some time since we 'talked' so I thought I'd just drop in and say hello.

Hi Erika,
I wanted to write the things below with the gift but somehow I could not successfully send it along with the message so here is the message,
Haven't seen you around lately.
You busy?Everything alright?
I hope whatever you are busy with goes well so consider this ribbon as all the best!
I know this ribbon is not kind of appropriate,
But then I hope you are good,
Looking forward to talk to you,
Sagarika

I'm looking to meet other (women) writers, and to spend some social networking time in a writerly way (rather than frittering time on fb/twitter, fun though both are). Thanks for saying hello!

Jeremy Irons, the alchemist and circular thinking

Posted on October 4, 2009 at 1:47pm 0 Comments

I have been listening to 'The Alchemist' in English, and was reminded of James Redfield's "Celestine Vision." I was listening to the book because Jeremy Irons was reading it and I love the sound of his voice. Really, it's like velvet. A fan of books that seek to reside in the metaphysical, seek to be existential or appreciate one's existential endeavors, intrigue me at this juncture. I had tried to avoid them, like self help books, because, well, one's journey to fullness can be documented but… Continue

a spoken word piece

Tihs is a piece I intend to record, as most lyrics I write these days are meant to be heard, not read, any feedback would be useful and appreciated.

going back to the beginning

Lourdes, I’m on my knees beggin to talk to me at fourteen

Tell her to keep on living to give that energy back to her

Art to let her soul shine from the start

that’s the way out of these twelve years of purgatory—

now back there chasin childhood… Continue

The dance of words

Posted on September 4, 2009 at 1:30pm 2 Comments

The trumpets resonate in my ears and somehow I remain seated reading book after book after book. They dance on the page in that syncopated rhythm remnant of childhood fading as the sun dims in the sky earlier and earlier, day by day. I am no longer escape nor refuge and somehow have shed the weight of happily ever after's based on dreams and prayer seems bound to paper and pen, much like the past twelve years living on computer screens, forgetting the feel of thin flimsy parchment between my… Continue
