Spring Weather and Writers' Block

Spring is in the air, meaning I am breaking my normal routines and going out to smell the roses. When I write, I'm not always with it.  Here are some solutions that work for me!Some Ways to Break Writers' Block1. Take a hike. 2. Color in a coloring book. 3. First Book Festival

Okay, so I'm diving into the book festival scene via the Los Angeles Festival of Books April 30th-May 1. How many books should I bring with me to sell? How many bookmarks should I have printed to give out? Last year (when the event was at the traditional UCLA site) 140,000 people attended.  They've moved it to 'SC, so it might be bigger (better public transportation) or not (half this city doesn't know the site changed). Any suggestions, anybody?See More

Post Card Campaign

I know the Tweets and blogs help as does Facebook.Recently, I sent out 24 postcards with an image from my book. I sent them to older people among my mom's friends who might not read blogs. The result was a good weekend this weekend for sales. So I am assuming that when "the kids" came to visit (or vice versa) someone helped the recipient of the card to navigate to Amazon. This is a self-pub book, doing okay in its first month out there in the big world. I have two things on my mind today that are about to make my head explode.

The first is that I have been asked to read and discuss my new book with a local book club. How do I choose passages to share? I don't want to give away the ending, but there is a passage at the end that I think the group would relate to? Yes or no? Who can advise me?

The second problem should work out by the end of the week. For some reason, the Kindle edition of MY book does not list me as the… Continue

Eileen ~ We have a terrier mix & a rhodesian ridgeback (the mastiff version). Quite the comedy routine around here, especially when the terrier is in a mood. She'll poke at him to pick a fight then hide. Absolutely love dog people! Thank you for your note.:) ~ Kate

Looking forward to visiting. How fun. I want to hear all about Zoozle (sp?) and your agent hunt.

Let's make it August 18. 11:00 is fine for me - earlier is okay, too. We leave tonight for a few days of camping so I'll be away until Monday. We can pick the place closer to the meeting date unless you know where you want to go. Lots of choices.

Perfect. We can also meet in Burbank if that would be better for you. I think there are several nice eateries there just off the 5 Freeway. But I know Pasadena a bit better. Since I think you'll be driving the farthest, I'll let you choose.

Anytime on Tues, Wed, or Thursday would work for me.
