The Unknowing of You

I wish I could unknow you --not forget you, unknow you. There must be within me a wayto rid the passages in my heartof the song of your voice andthe thrill of your kiss;to erase the poetry of your breath. There must be a way to unknow these things. No refuge exists in forgetting;the memories hold fast, linger deep within, climbing to the surfacewhen I can least bear the emotion. The unknowing of youwould grant relieffrom the aching wanting loving of you.No, forgetting you will never do;I must have…See More

Hot Coal

I hold tight to a hot coal of the pastI cannot set it free.It burns through my skin, melding to sinew and bonebecoming a part of who I am. The Unknowing of You

I wish I could unknow you --

not forget you,

unknow you.

There must be within me a way

to rid the passages in my heart

of the song of your voice and

the thrill of your kiss;

to erase the poetry of your breath.

There must be a way to unknow these things.

No refuge exists in forgetting;

the memories hold fast, linger deep within,

climbing to the surface

when I can least bear the emotion.

The unknowing of you

smoke curling through my veins, rushing through my

Why do I write?

Posted on July 13, 2010 at 8:30am 0 Comments

Why do we write? A fellow writer once posed this question to those who write and read his blog. You can imagine the long and varied list of replies he received - some more coherent than others. I read through the responses, contemplated my own reasons for writing, and answered with a quote by Alice James: I think if I get into the habit of writing a bit about what happens, or rather what doesn't happen, I may lose a little of the sense of loneliness and desolation which abides in… Continue

Once

Once, when no one was looking

I pretended

each day you whisper

good morning with a sunshine smile

and make me an I- love- you breakfast of

banana pancakes with maple syrup and

a big glass of milk

(would you laugh at my milk mustache?)

and we spend our just- the- two- of- us days

walking and skipping and hopscotching

and singing silly songs in the park and

have a peanut butter and jelly picnic with

cheetos and chocolate chip…

Elisa, Delighted to have you join us the Novelist group. You might jump in by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. I’ll look forward to chatting with you!

Adding my voice to the welcome, Elisa. If you’re looking for a place to jump in, we’d love to have you join us in the Publishing Industry News group, or in Novelists – Struggling or Not.

And I love "Hear the hissing, popping death of the Past /gasping its last black threats." Reminds me of Anne Sexton (whose poetry I love).

Hope you enjoy She Writes!

Elisa, Welcome to SheWrites. Reading your poem I didn't realize you only joined today. What a wonderful way to introduce yourself, to share what inspires you, what keeps you going no matter what. I'm sure you'll find plenty of avenues to explore on this platform. If at first it may seem like you're losing yourself in reading, pretty soon, you'll be enticed to write. I know that's how it went and goes for me. Enjoy!
