7 Ways to "Flesh Out" a Scene

You've finally found a reading "pal," a person you trust who answers all the burning questions you have about your manuscript, a person who has also published a little or a lot, who takes the kind of consideration with your manuscript that it needs to be "polished." You've given her your manuscript and are…See More

Free Storytelling Workshop in Sioux City, IA

Hi all Sioux City-ers,I will be teaching a 5-week Storytelling Workshop.  Here is the flyer.Write the Stories of Your Life Workshop “Why do we misremember things in certain ways? ... Looking back, we do not recall a steady, seamless flow of events in time. Instead, our mind breaks the flow of time into related chunks and stores them as scenes and anecdotes and episodes.” Frank Bures Storytelling has come to mean a lot of things to writers. It can be more connected with children’s play, or it…See More

Breaking the Rules

Posted on April 7, 2012 at 8:42am 0 Comments

I have to apologize.  Lately on my blog, I've broken the rule about writing, which is to veer away from self-indulgence (unless it is compelling, surprising, or brings the reader to a new realm) and I've berated some of my audience, which are true blue lovers of Colorado.

I apologize!

I, Elisabeth Kinsey, will stop wallowing in self pity long enough to at least follow those rules and dedicate my time to finding what Dinty Moore calls:

1) How has your career as a journalist evolved?  How did you get to features?

Even in grade school, writing was the way that I most comfortably expressed myself. I was the consummate journal-keeper. But I didn’t seriously…

I feel your pain! I get a check only 8 out of 12 months. Budgeting is a challenge, to say the least!

I haven't been on SheWrites much lately.  Been busy doing my own "thang" I suppose.  I'm curious as to what my SheWrites friends are up to, writing-wise, though.  Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from 2 agents who have requested my full manuscript of The Time Minders.  I'm still working on Kingdoms of Blood & Magic, but not as diligently as I should, since I've been querying/submitting for the TTM, doing scads of tutoring at my daughters' school and work for our church's youth group.  How about YOU?

Writing away...editing the last few chapters of my book...then back to the beginning. One more edit, and I should be done. Are you in a critique group? I belong to an on line critique group, and the face-to-face meeting twice a month in Soho. I find that feedback gives me the push I need. Are you almost finished with your ms?
