Countdown to Publication - Lunch in Paris – 5 weeks ago: "Pitching Paris"

I love Paris. I stopped by the café next to the metro today for a hot chocolate. The waiter is a friend by now – as I wrote a good portion of Lunch in Paris sitting in one of his booths. He said he sent the reference of the book to his two brothers who live in the US. I hope he mentioned that he had a great hand in its completion – my morning café crème (and croissant from the boulangerie up the street), was essential for artistic inspiration.I’m back to writing pitch letters, thinking of every…See More

I can't tell you how envious I am of your life in Paris. Was it Julia Child's My Life in France that inspired you? I'll look forward to hearing more about your reading at WHSmith. I'd really like to hear more about the contrast…

Lunch in Paris - Countdown to Publication: 1 month ago

First, a comparative visual – my parent’s overstocked US fridge (full to bursting with 17 kinds of salad dressing and nothing to eat) and our French fridge (cleaned by G. and awaiting a trip to the Saturday market). I’m back in Paris now – so happy to be in my own kitchen! I’m also back at my (incredibly) messy desk – and as I suspected, everything that has happened in the past few weeks seems a bit unreal.I had a good meeting with my editor and the marketing/publicity team before I left – the…See More

Countdown to Publication - Lunch in Paris: 3 weeks ago

Hi Everyone. Wow I’m tired, and full. I flew back from Australia straight into San Francisco this past week to do a reading at Book Passage in the Ferry Building - and I managed some serious foodie tourism (Chili lamb at Burmastar, French toast at Mama’s, bosc pears at the farmers market, and a Persian feast prepared by a friend of the family) along the way. The event was small - serious Francophiles all. Talking to readers – performing parts of the book – is starting to make me think about…See More

Lunch in Paris - Countdown to Publication - two weeks ago

I guess this post should really be called "The Morning After". My first book, Lunch in Paris: A Love Story with Recipes, was published by Little Brown on Feb 2nd. I'm an art historian by training and a journalist by trade. Ten years ago, I sat down to lunch in Paris with a charming Frenchman - and never went home. I always knew I wanted to write about the rich texture of interculture marriage and living abroad. I love to cook and explore the markets -… Continue

How funny. I looked at your novel on amazon, and the first few blurbs are novel writers (incl. Diane Johnson, whose work I LOVE), so I leapt to the conclusion Lunch in Paris was too. Now I definitely have to check it out! (Yum. Food!) Mac and I plan to take places for a month at a stretch after our youngest heads for college next fall, and Paris is definitely on the list.

Do pull that novel out of the closet and come join us! The novel group is at http://www.shewrites.com/group/novelistsstrugglingornot

Hi Elizabeth. Thanks for joining Global Writers, and congratulations on the new book! I actually just saw it last week on Amazon US (but I'm in Japan, so I'm not sure whether Amazon.jp has it, but it looks great!) I occasionally have written for the books/ideas section of the Boston Globe, so I was looking for expat books that had some relation to Boston (since they tend to look for books that have a Boston angle to them) to pitch a review, and that's when I came across your book. Again, congratulations. Please feel free to post an intro of yourself and your book on the Global Writers page.

Looking forward to being connected!

The courage of publishing a memoir

"Why call it a memoir. Why can't it be a novel?"  Honestly, I understand my father's point of view.  Just a few months ago an ex of mine released a cd worldwide  in which he featured several songs about me and our breakup.  While all the songs…See More
