Personas and Authors

Good morning everyone! I know I haven't written a good post in awhile and I thought I might write a little something to let you know I'm still alive. ::grin:: This time around I would like to touch upon personas and authors. Especially if you are going to have or do have a pen name. This is going to pertain more to fiction writers and those with particular genres. When going to conventions or trying to stand out, making a person is a terrific way to do this. When I say persona I don't mean that…See More

Steampunk World Fair!

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 6:29am 0 Comments

The Steampunk World Fair was the best convention I have been to! There was so much to do between the Steampunk YA talks, bands, archery lessons and wonderful people just wasn’t enough time to do everything! However, I did do what was most important for me and I had a great time doing it.

The most interesting was going to the Steampunk YA Fiction talk:

A look into steampunk themes in young adult fictions with current authors. Hosted by Kady Cross, AL Davroe, Lia…

Your a bad writer! (and reader)

Posted on May 12, 2012 at 5:59am 0 Comments

There is a saying that goes something like this: “Those that can’t do teach.” The origin of the phrase (I believe) being: “He who can, does. He who cannot teaches.” Man and Superman (1903) “Maxim for Revolutionist” George Bernard Shaw. But what do we call those that can’t do, but review? And not only review but review with a biased and prejudice.

First, let me be very clear. No I did not get some recent bad review and am trying to get back at someone. This… Continue

You're an idiot! I can't believe you signed that contract!

Ok, let me make this clear before we go on: I am an idiot too. I have coined the phrase “first author syndrome” and the meaning is when an author first gets done their book and it is their first time publishing, they are so stupid it drives me up a wall. You may wonder how I am able to give advice and why I am such a hardass about this topic. Because I went through it and I never want to see another author have the same hardship I did.

Red flag number 1:… Continue

Wow, Elizabeth! I've just checked out your review. Brilliant! Congratulations. That must be a buzz and a half.

Looking forward to it,

Hi Elizabeth.

I know you have lots of experience epubbing. I just posted on the subject if you want to comment (and get some free publicity for your ebook). Cheers, Catherine

Here are my suggestions for your pitch. Anything in parentheses without stars should be deleted. The stars are my suggestions. I have cut quite a bit for you without changing the ideas. In a pitch you need to catch the attention immediately. Think of it like a book jacket and write accordingly. Many times the pitch becomes your blurb.:)

Good luck and let me know if you like the suggestions. My daughter had to help me with mine. They are hard!!!

Thanks, Elizabeth! Little by little I'm meeting new friends and finding new authors to read. So many books, so little time.
