No, don't stop now

On the days that my vision is not blurred from the current physical trauma I am experiencing, I write. Well, on most of those days. That is NOT what this is about. It's about my characters speaking to me, kinda telling me their story. Once that started happening for me, I was all gangbusters, writing frantically, fantastically, formidably, all the F words. Then  I stopped hearing them. Let me start at the beginning.

First, I knew I had to find the write name for my female…

Just keep writing

Posted on February 8, 2011 at 5:04am 2 Comments

In all my years of looking for a recipe for writing, the most prolific advice I received was 'just write'. Initially, I thought this was hogwash. I do write. But as of yet, no magical book has resulted in my dogged attack on writing. Oh, my friends have said -"E- you write brilliantly. You have to keep writing. Where is your book?" I rationalized - they are my friends. How can they say - "E-your writing sucks. Get a daytime job and keep it."; they cannot.

Yet, true to my…

Accepting a Dream

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 8:11am 1 Comment

I have experienced a lot of transition over the last 5 years. I went through 3 years of separation from my husband, then my marriage ended, severing a 20+ year relationship. My brother-in-law was murdered in his office at a major university. My ex-husband was remarried two weeks after our divorce was final. The roof of my home started caving in, and needed major repairs. I moved for the first time in 11 years, and had a major surgery from which a side effect has been disabling migraines,…

No way for a woman with words to live...

Here is the thing - deciding which challenge is the priority and then planning goals to accomplish the smashing success of results brought on by determined doggedness and forced efforts. The issue is not IF I can, it is when I will.

When I…

Elizabeth, we all feel this paralysis. Or at least I do. Hate hate hate 1st draft, esp. the early pages. And if you think you're alone, take a look at1st Books: Stories of How Writers Get Started - and all the guest author posts on how hard it is. Julia Glass's is my current fave.
