Who I am:
I tweet at @girlsstudies.com. Website coming soon as well as tumblr site about contemporary girlhood in America. I'm an academic, poet, nonfiction writer, editor, sometimes journalist, and creative writing mentor -- the usual mix demanded of multi-tasking freelancers with too many interests but who can't imagine doing only one thing!

The Errant Thread, published by Kore Press and selected by Eavan Boland for their First Book Award.

Girls' Studies published in November 2009 by Seal Press. This book offers a critical look at the fast-rising field of girls' studies and examines how girls are gendered within contemporary American culture.

My essay "The Active Blank: The White Space Speaks" is just out in Mentor and Muse: Essays from Poets to Poets, published by Southern Illinois University Press, 2010.

My essay "Something Old, Something New: What's an Indiebride to Do?" is forthcoming from Fashion Talks: Confronting Hegemony with Style," SUNY Press, 2011.

Many individual poems in literary journals.

Let me know what you're specifically interested and I'll do my best for you. And watch my site because if it's something that seems to be good for the writing community, I'll post it there. Hopefully I'll be around for the next meetup!

Hi Elline, Not so sure how to navigate myself -- still figuring it out! Debbie Siegel suggested that I get in touch with you. From your profile, it looks like you are doing really interesting work. I am getting ready to start a new discussion on Writer, PhD*; there's one already underway (and a more general one on the mssg. board). Would love to hear more about what you're thinking about where you've been and where you'd like to go. -- All best, Heather
