Writing for the sake of writing

When I first began to take writing seriously in 2008, I wrote for the love of it. Writing was a rewarding experience, and I could've cared less about publication or making money. I was told that I needed to be a published author to make a difference in the world. Everything from then on revolved around the pursuit of publication. After almost 4 years of writing for various…See More

Do You Read Southern Poetry or Just Write It?

As an undergraduate English major, I was required to read loads of literature and poetry. As a Southerner going to a Southern university, I was required to read Southern poetry. Edgar Allan Poe's poems were a part of my Southern Literature curriculum, so I read a great many of his poems, as well. What Southern poets does everyone else enjoy reading, either past or present?…See More

Hi Emily, Welcome to the Southern Writers Group. You're our 300th so we've hit a milestone. I'm from the Alabama Gulf Coast so I'm especially happy to welcome you. Check out the Discussion: Everything and The Kitchen Sink and then move on to Roll Call which will give you a taste of who's who. Jump in anywhere and be sure and introduce yourself. Loved your piece on women writers. I could write a book!
