New story up: wordhaus romance

But I Am FreeI sat across from him on the black sofa-bed I usually reserved for guests, while sipping my chai tea, and I just stared for a moment. It was so strange to have this man here in my bed still. Usually I would pretend to have a meeting to go to or I would outright let them know that their presence was disrupting my work. That was the good thing about being an artist. I could say that I needed space and…See More

Art is Not Sacred

Posted on June 11, 2013 at 9:30am 0 Comments

While listening to my classical music Pandora station, I caught myself nodding along to at tune that was familiar … but I couldn't place it at first. It was Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It took me a few minutes to figure out because the classical cover was so far removed from the song's original grunge styling. Once I gave it my full attention and identified this lovely string piece as a Kurt Cobain song, my first reaction was to feel guilty for enjoying it. A Nirvana song, converted…

Hi there Emily, Thanks from commenting on my blog post. So far that book you mentioned is all I've read of his. It's a good quick read, and usually everything takes me forever! Take it easy. Phoebe

Hi Emily,
Most of the writing groups tend to form at local colleges, I think. I belong to the Continental Writer's Group (which, unfortunately, is currently "closed" to new members due to the volume of existing members), but this seems like a great forum to get something started!

Hi there! I wasn't actually aware there was a LitFest, thanks for the heads-up. As for writers groups in Omaha, I haven't seen much outside of the colleges. I'm primarily a poet, and most of the "gatherings" are Slam-type events, which I'm not interested in. But sure, I'd be open to getting something going :)

Emily --
I won't be at LitFest this year, though I've participated in the past. Be sure to go. You're bound to meet interesting people. As for an Omaha She Writes group -- I'm certainly open to talking about it. Keep me posted as to the response you get from others. Taek care, and thanks for contacting me.

Delighted to have you join us the Novelist group. You might jump in by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. I’ll look forward to chatting with you!
