Emily - Your issue is one we all face, I think. One thing I've been doing to cut down on email is to get off of email lists and "friend" or "like" them on Facebook. I find I'm spending less time on email, cutting through the junk much more quickly and actually paying attention to them more on FB. Maybe it's just the visual quality, but it's helping. I suspect, though, that once I get my blog up, this will all change!

For me, that's the hardest part. Sometimes I just write the word "The" and hope more words will join it. And I always start in my journal, because then I'm not really starting anything...

I'm a UM alum, btw. Undergrad and the law school; my new novel (coming next March) is about 4 women grads of UMLaw, and takes place in part in Ann Arbor - where my youngest starts in the fall! And I'll be doing a reading at the graduate library (or maybe in the new art building) there when the book comes out.
