Laura, I believe Gutkind was being positive when he said creative non-fiction was 'invading' those disciplines. He believes all writing can be more descriptive, vivid and and that we can remember more than we think we do. I think this…

sounds great ...keep making those notes! I've been working on an essay about my mother's depression-era mentality. How she hoarded things. She called it "collecting". Sweet memories now. My mom died 6 years ago. I could not have…

Hi Laura, I just returned from the Oxford Creative Non-fiction Conference. It was a wonderful 4 days with Lee Gutkind, and many other creative non-fiction writers. I would suggest that you work on your resistance to describe the scenes that you…

Emma French Connolly commented on the group 'Essay Writing'
Hi Linda and Nancy . . . my understanding is that an essay is mainly a piece of non-fiction (or creative non-fiction). When the writer begins inserting characters, or information that is not true, then it becomes a piece of fiction, a story.

Okay, here's a few: Writing my dreams. Dreaming my right. Write your own story. Tell lies. Tell them I was here. Unceasingly. I write for healing. Wholeness comes.

I'm contemplating a nonfiction book on the subject of my caregiving - more from a memoir angle in a humorous light, than from the information handbook perspective. I'm learning that it's a subject that most baby boomers don't want to approach, largely because of how daunting it is to see your own parent (especially a mother) in such a vulnerable and unstable condition. I would like to possibly shrink that fear down, making it much more palatable and even successful for whoever finds themselves in this arena of life.

Thx for the look @ my artwork. It's how I make my living - HA - such as it is these days! As for writing, I do my blog when I'm not painting but I'm really after getting myself to work on some short stories that have been lying around unfinished, but they are looking more like essays to me. I'm not too computer savvy & still trying to find my way around the SW site.
