People always ask me why I work in publishing. I usually admit that I ask myself that question every day. As an agent, so much of the work we do with the author is on spec; there’s no salary – we live off the commissions that we make and split with the agency. Have you noticed all the books sans jackets in the stores? Instead publishers are stamping titles and accolades right on the cardboard. Apparently that's the new thing. Colin Beavan's memoir of living the ultimate green lifestyle is the perfect candidate for no jacket, since no jacket means one less piece of shiny paper to muck up the earth.
