Balanced Weight Loss

Posted on May 13, 2010 at 2:11pm 0 Comments

Normally, I try to avoid talking about weight loss, being an eating disorders therapist- it can be a touchy subject indeed. But lately, I’ve come to realize that there is what I believe to be, a balanced approach to losing a bit of extra weight if you really need to for health reasons. How did I come to this realization, you ask? Personal experience of course!

Turning 39 recently has brought with it much appreciated wisdom, calmness, material comfort, and settling comfortably into… Continue

Putting the Past where it belongs-Closure in Relationships

Posted on May 13, 2010 at 2:11pm 0 Comments

In my therapy practise, the work lately seems to be about helping clients release and let go of ‘unfinished business’ from the past; whether it’s an old romance that still niggles away at their psyche, healing from a past trauma, or coming to terms with one’s family-of-origin and learning to reposition oneself in our families as the adult women we are now, rather than reacting like the child we used to be.

Wherever I go, There I Am

I am really good at this form of wishful thinking myself. Anytime I find myself bored, lacking enthusiasm, or lonely, I come up with some exciting life-makeover plan that will surely cure all of my ills (or… Continue

Finding Nirvana through Making a Home-cooked Meal

Posted on January 5, 2010 at 6:13pm 0 Comments

I recently had the pleasure of visiting my grandmother Ruth in London, England, which I am lucky enough to do once a year. Although it’s quite the schlep to get there and the jet-lag is absolutely BRUTAL, it is worth every minute of it. Although I am generally a good sleeper, there is no place I sleep as soundly or as deeply than at my granny’s. In psycho-babble terms, I would say that my grandparent’s home has always been my “safe place”. My grandparents were my rock as a child- they rooted me… Continue
